Slapped by the racing gods..or DrSwade's day of excitement turns to months of misery.

Thought I would update:

I had some x-rays done a few weeks ago. It seems I am murder on orthopedic hardware.
Took two back surgeries to take and now it seems my second attempt to fix my pelvis failed too.
The two screws near the symphysis pubis broke and the other four are loose. Looks like it shifted a bit.
I am just going to deal/live with it unless it becomes life threatening or some major plumbing issues arise.
I Still count my blessings every day as I can walk, work out somewhat and as Cmdr. Data would say, I am "fully functional".

Shit happens. When I saw that Cameron Gish was back out so soon after his crash and then crashed again, I cringed to say the least.
I hope he has a better result than I.
Thanks to everyone at BARF for all the kind words and support over the last two years (almost).

How did they get loose by sitting on the beach drinking?
Miss seeing you at the track

So I thought I would finish out this thread with a few words and a picture.
On the 28th of February it was the two year anniversary of my crash at Sear's.

I have had a long and tough road with many set backs. The crash was a catalyst for my making some huge moves in my life, not least of all, moving to Mexico.
When we arrived in early February 2012, I had difficulty going up and down stairs and actually had to side step up the steep stairs at my house. If you have ever been to Cabo San Lucas, you know how treacherous the sidewalks and streets can be for even an able bodied person. You really have to be on your game to prevent stubbing a toe or tripping in a random hole or even stepping off of a drop off where a step should be.
I just took it easy and eased myself into having some form of normal life here without showing too much limp or pain.

About April of last year I started easing back into the gym and trying to recover some mobility and flexibility as well as gaining back some of my muscle (losing all that fat I gained in the process of recovery).

I am really turning back into a gym rat of sorts and figure that it is better than becoming an alcoholic, which is easy to do down here.
The photo below was taken outside the gym on the 28th. (Yes, that is a Costco in the background.)

I just want to again thank everyone who have helped me in my recovery and in the last two years following my crash. I miss the paddock more than I can express in words and miss all of you track day/racer friends equally.
Cheers everyone!

Damn Lookin B-A big guy!!!

glad to see your doing much better and healing along. Keep at it:cool

Holy fawk man! Sounds like you're actually living it up down there in the land of the burrito!

Well folks! I am doing well and although hate not riding anymore, I am thankful to be walking.
I have had quite a bit of pain in my left foot and ankle from the hardware and after getting some x-rays it has been determined that my screws are loose and the wiggling causes the pain. I also have some tibotalar bone spurs that prevent my foot from flexion. I am having surgery 16th of March in La Jolla at the VA, which is about 10 years after this thread started.

In spite of all of this I decided to revisit one of my hobbies from more than 30 years ago, competing in the NPC Bodybuilding circuit.

I pulled off a bearded win at the Tampa Pro/Am which qualified me for the national and pro qualifier, the North American Championships. Finished 13th out of 18 guys. Apparently the lockdown didn't affect everyone. Lol! Both of which I will post picks. I also did the Night of Champions in Spokane late October but that was a bust and only finished 2nd. It was snowing like a MoFo there and couldn't wait to get back home to Cabo.

I sure miss all my racing and track buddies up North! I hope all have faired well this year.

Cheers!

Hey Thumper, did someone tell me you did some paramotor/paragliding? I am planning on a course here before my foot surgery.
Any reason I should/shouldn’t?

Frank who no longer posts on barf is the Powered Para Gliding God :laughing

WE have our old Buckeye that needs a new chute but there is absolutely no reason not to do it. Ours is an old tricycle rig not the backpack version.

You guys inspire.

Update:
Foot surgery on March 16 to remove hardware and bone spurs.
