I found the study statement that 20% of people do not need an alarm clock shocking. I have a sleep disorder, so I understand my experience is unusual, but the idea of someone just going to sleep and waking up in time for work everyday is wildly alien to me.

Do you all get regular sleep and can you get up at your required time without assistance?

I'm like 50/50 on the alarm clock. If I get 6 hrs or more of sleep I usually don't need it and will wake up when I need to.

I dig it when the succubus visits.

:wtf

That is fascinating. I have some kind of internal awareness of the passage of time, if I have a high stress meeting or flight to catch, I sometimes will bolt awake like 2 minutes before my alarm goes off, but those are rare high stress situations. It sounds nice to be regular like that.

Back when I didn't have to be up until 9:00 am, I never used an alarm, it was a natural time for me to wake up.

Now that I have to get up hours earlier, I need an alarm every morning. I'm also more tired all the time.

I set 5 alarms and usually sleep through 2 of them. I had to get rid of my fitbit because it was sad to see I only get 4-6 hours and it is broken sleep :laughing I am a night owl.

My husband doesn't need to set an alarm and he can fall asleep anywhere at anytime. It is a gift. He is also a morning person.

Someday I will be able to get 8 hours. It is on my bucket list :laughing

My stupid brain wakes up by 5:30, even on weekends. Once that happens I can't really fall back asleep, just kinda doze.

I really only take brief naps throughout the night anyway. I wake completely up two or three times every night, usually more. :mad

Back when clock radios were a thing, the noise it made when it internally switched the radio on for the alarm would wake me up, before the radio started playing. There is no snooze button for me, my brain says get up.

If I don't have an alarm set, I will sleep lighter and wake up more often in panic. I can go to bed at 9pm and still wake up after 7am. I cannot sleep in later than 7:30a but I usually need to be up at 5:45 to 6:30am.

my sleep cycle has dropped to about 45 minutes to an hour, so I wake up many times during the night, re position, go to bathroom, wander around house, talk to the cat then go back to sleep.
I don't use an alarm but usually get up around 6:30am anyway, if I do over sleep I figure I needed it.
If I absolutely need to be up on time then I set an alarm.
Generally I feel well rested if I wake up from a dream regardless of the amount of sleep I get.
I usually sleep 6 - 8 hours a night, more on weekends.

I wake up within 3 minutes of the alarm going off, rather it is turned on or not.

it's weird.

I too have a sleep disorder. I start work at 5:00AM and I love my works schedule, because I wake up, like clock-work, between 3-4:00AM everyday!!!

I go to bed at 8:00PM each night and I will often wake throughout the night. My puppy has a screwed up schedule too. She has been waking my Wife and I up every 3-4 hours to go potty.

I'm ecstatic whenever I can sleep the entire night w/o interruptions.

I have been waking up, without alarms, for decades “justin time”...

I’m lucky that way.

I dig sleep.

I use an alarm but at time don't need it.. for safety sake.

I tend to stay up until 12 or so (2AM last night) and wake at 6:30. Fridays and Saturday I get in a bit more sleep. No alarm.. typically wake at 7:30.

my brother has never used an alarm clock, and can "set" himself to wake up at any given time. is pretty wild. it never fails

just like my old man :)

This is all very interesting to me. I have hypernychthemeral syndrome (Non-24) so regardless of circumstances, regular sleep is difficult to achieve for me. I usually get 3-5 hours a night during the work week and I sleep for like 10-12 hours whenever I crash out Friday and Saturday nights, depending on my social obligations.

I'm pretty sure I also have the ARDB1 mutation, so it is pretty tolerable all things told.

I would love to see a sleep study done on Kev's brother.

my pupper, who sleeps with us, hears the alarm clock switch on and will be sure to make sure we are awake.

strangely, he does this at the same time when the alarm is not turned on , also (weekends)

As I've gotten older it is difficult to get a full night's sleep. Squirrel cage in my brain starts going around 2pm thinking about stupid shit such as: why did Adam say that yesterday? Mine is mostly self imposed stress related. Usually get 6-7 hours but it would be glorious to have a full 9 without waking up. Can't remember the last time I woke up refreshed and ready to kill it.
Xanax helps but leaves me foggy in the moring, plus I don't think it is a good solution to the problem.
As far as setting an alarm, I too never need to, wake up when I need to and very, very seldom have I over slept: only once in the last 20 years and that was due to the Xanax...

I did snore pretty badly and had a sleep study done which found evidence of Sleep Apena. So, had my sinus's microwaved, scared the back of my throat and removed my uvula. Helped the problem (wife no longer complains about the snoring) but loosing weight (due to above stress) really solved the issue.

Eldrich we all know that you sleep in a coffin, maybe it's time to get it relined for comfort.
