So, racism by Starbucks or just two guys who wouldn't buy a cup of coffee?

Last I heard they got the Mortimer Duke $1 and had *$ make some donation. Something happened after that? Linky..?

Ahhh, found it. I was describing the settlement with the city. Starbucks gave them an unknown amount and is letting them finish their undergrad via their online program from AZ state. Not what I'd call a free ride to college, but it's not quite nothing...though I know I'd get a chuckle out of interviewing someone who put "online program from AZ state" on their resume. :laughing

I'm willing to bet they got a pretty hefty check to go away, or there was enough dirt Starbucks was able to dig up on them it was "take this, or else..."

So you're saying you have no idea how much they got paid and you're just trying to sound really smart when you say it. :rofl

Let's revisit this. Let's unpack it a little bit.

I wish I was black :nchantr

So you wish you were black.

Ok.

(we'll just ignore all of the societal obstacles that being black imparts, because I'm sure you're completely blind to them anyhow)

So you wish you were black.

So you could be the beneficiary of a monetary settlement.

Of a racist action.

That was made possible by a systemic, societal racism.

That you maintain.

That you uphold.

That you benefit from.

Damn.

That's the most racist thing I've ever heard anyone say.

Weren't you hyping the one dollar settlement with the city while knowing full well they also got money in a settlement with Starbucks? Yeah, how it went.

BTW, screaming racism for personal gain is a fucking industry.

I respond, I don't provoke. To the point.... See attached.

I'm all for a reasonable debate. But once it gets personal, I'm out (at least now, I didn't used to be that way).

BTW, I thought that Schel had a valid point, just poor delivery.

it wasn't a few minutes of inconvenience. they were arrested, led away in handcuffs and spent hours in jail for postponing a purchase of a cup of coffee?

they were inside the establishment for just a few minutes, at an establishment where it is commonly acceptable to just hang out without constantly stuffing your face with a pastry or drinking coffee.

that does not sit well with me. they should not have gone through all of that. the only way a large corporation learns never to do it again is to get sued.

No, they were arrested for trespassing. If you're asked to leave and you don't, you are trespassing. Since when does a business not have the right to ask someone to leave the premises if they are not making a purchase? It's not a public park, it's a business.

i'm outta this thread. already lost a couple of hrs yesterday doin my best to say all that i could possibly articulate in written form ...

This^

A business is private property. When asked to leave, you must leave, not ascert rights you do not have. If you disagree with being asked to leave, that is what the complaint form is for and why courts exist. Refusing only drags others into the problem (like the police) who have no authority to judge civil matters but who must enforce the laws and trespassing is against the law.

Even a business open to the public is still private property.

Holy shit, drawing imaginary conclusions + personal attacks. Is a post, made in jest, amongst myriad other cancer-like posts really the most racist thing you've ever heard? If so, I guess racism in this country isn't as bad as you're making it out to be in this thread! :laughing

He wishes he was a baller, wishes he was taller, I wish I was a little bit taller.
Wished he had a girl who looked good, he would call her

Nothing wrong with that.
