SO wants an electric bike

I have had mine for about 3 years now. Prodecotech. I use it almost everyday. I put on HD tubes and bomb proof Schwalbe tires and I have never flatted. They are great.

I built my own mid drive system for my cheap mountain bike, 24V 250watt with 6s LIPO. Helps me get up those steep hills with relative ease :) I built it so I can go ride trails you can't ride motorcycles on :) I've ridden Mission Peak with it.

I wouldn't mind getting one of those small folding electric bicycles, that way you can throw it in the trunk of your car. I have have an electric razor scooter for that now though.

I got a Trek Super Commuter for commuting. It basically flattens out any hills. It easily added +5mph on vs off.

I'd check out the Stromer. It nearly felt like a motorcycle I suspect because of the hub motor. It has brake regen if you brake lightly. Saves your brake pads going down hill.

Ped-assist ebikes are great for extending range, boosting speed, and, above all, making hills easily doable.

I just got a Specialized Turbo Como that I totally love for most of my in-town errands. The Swiss design is spot on, both cosmetically, and, more importantly, in how they've dialed in the sensors and computer to be just right. Their motto: "It's you, only faster." I strongly prefer having the motor run through the geared drive train rather than a hub motor in the wheel.

If around SF, talk to Fred at Velocipede Cyclery on Third St. I found him to be friendly, knowledgeable, and he offers test rides.

+1 on getting a Zero. I have the DS version with the newer battery pack. I can make it from Santa Rosa to St. Helena and backnon a charge with about 10-15% life left after spirited runs over trinity rd. It is great for the quick in town trips. Doesn't replace a gas bike for me but great supplement.

AHA! My old bike lives and breathes!!! Most excellent.:afm199

So, Krusty beat me to it... you have to know your routes and specific usage and when and where you can charge...

They are an absolute joy... in the city the twsit and go is priceless!:thumbup:thumbup
