Someone threw a rock (and hit me) on Hwy 9 today (7/4/06) (Warning - blood)

Thanks Moike, very timely with the 4th of July weekend upon us.

I was shot at and grazed by a 22 while joging around Harbor Bay Isle in Alameda. WTF? about 12 years ago.

Signs of a bad economy when psycho's can't afford bullets and have to resort to throwing rocks.

Blame it on the gun control policies in this state. I have resorted to throwing rocks at targets at the range too!

More of a sign that we need tighter rock-control laws.

I propose the following:
1. Safety test required for anyone purchasing rocks.
2. Special license required for anyone who wishes to carry rocks. (unfortunately most people will not be able to get one)
3. 10 day waiting period from the time that you purchase your rock until you can pick it up and use it.
4. You can only purchase one rock in a 30 day period.
5. You can't buy rocks from out of state.
6. There is a specific list of rocks (make, model, size are specified) from which you can purchase rocks here in California. Any other of the thousands of types of rocks are illegal to be purchased from a rock dealer. However, you may purchase one of these non-list rocks from a private party.

This will certainly reduce the number incidents in which rocks are used to commit a crime or cause bodily injury.

I went to the gun range in OR yesterday (I'm no gun expert or have i shot much). I was surprised to see it's not against the law to have an unregistered gun in either WA or OR. Or you just don't need to register it and you won't get busted. Just the usual container and the clips removed from the chamber thing.

But then you can't bring it to the range by yourself. YOu have to be accompanied by someone else....if i remember correctly.

I guess the percentile of crazy people walking in alone and bringing guns by themselves is up versus sane single gun toters.

They did have a pool table and a dog laying out on his bean bag. so i shot a few games while waiting for the traffic to die down a little.

:wow The horror!

Hey I got news for you, it's not illegal to have unregistered guns in CA either. Shocking, I know, but only certain firearms are required to be registered in this state.

More likely... the rule is you can't rent a gun if you are by yourself. This keeps the batshit insane from coming to the range, renting a gun, and spraying their brains all over the ceiling. That if you're accompanied by somebody else you are less likely to rid the world of yourself. Or that's the idea anyway.

You might be surprised to find out that is the case all over the country. There are a few (very few) states that have unusually strict gun laws. California is one of them, and the reality is that only a portion of our population actually believe in them and support them. Many of us agree with the rest of the country.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. Even private party sales are supposed to go through an FFL dealer (person or gun store) so the firearm is registered in Calif.

they didn't need to keep records of rifle serial #'s before, but that's about to change soon. For the moment, only handguns are actually "registered"...

Tho I think what was meant was, possession of a firearm doesn't mean it needs to be registered. Only the process of transferring ownership is what creates a paper trail. Unless it's a "banned even tho it's never been used in a crime" .50 bmg or "assault rifle" that needs to be registered to simply own one.

(going to do the paperwork for my new AR receiver this afternoon for my first AR build w00t! )

National Rock Association?! Wow that was fast!

Obviously when there is a problem in this country, someone responds by creating an organization to oversee the implementation of the proper regulations!

Nope. You just clear the DOJ background with the FFL.
When people use the word "register" in this context, they are not talking about that.

This is what I concidered registering:

For example when I had my FFL back in the late 80's every hand gun I sold got a 4473 form (fed) and a DROS (state) 1 copy of the DROS went to local PD, one copy went to Calif DOJ.

Wordplay/symantics. According to the DOJ website there is no registration required except for assault rifles but the bottom line is when you buy a new gun in Calif or do a private party transfer it is so to speak 'registered'.

Damn Moike time flys, I remember you at STP right after the incident. 4years gone in a blink. A few weeks after your incident a friend reported that he was really lucky on 9. Fate rolled a rock onto the road and he just missed clipping it. After I told him about your incident he decided that it was probably the same phuck that nailed you.

Damn Moike. That's some crazy shit. This happened right about the time that I got the m1 on my license. Can you imagine if that rock had hit a newer rider? They might've gone off the road and gotten badly hurt or killed! I hope whoever threw that rock at you back in 2006 has been visited by some terrible dick mutilating disease. The last thing we need is assholes like that breeding freely.

Some asshole in Monterey walking his big poodle (told ya....) was apparently unhappy w/ the sound of my XT and picked up a big rock as I rode by looking for a garage sale and made as if to throw it at me. I skidded to a stop and mister sweater over the shoulder scurried off into the bushes w/ his dog. Out of character for me but I really wanted to go off on this dude. For some reason as soon as he picked up that rock I realized how vulnerable I was to something as simple as that. Be careful out there folks

PS; Funny considering when I was a punk running around on a Vespa in the early 80's jocks used to chase us around throwing everything (batteries, full beers, tire chocks etc) at us all the fucking time and we didn't give a shit....live and learn...hopefully!
