None, but my brother has 56 and counting.
Name
Ken
Donkey's years ago, when I had a Zojirushi bread machine, I made my own sourdough starter. Unfortunately I allowed it to go the way of the Dodo bird and dinosaurs. I am about to commit to starting one again, but being lazy, I have to ask if anyone wants to donate a starter?

This has been a cool website forever..... http://carlsfriends.net/source.html

Thanks, I am in San Jose and will take a drive for starter.

I bought some on etsy a while ago. It was cheap and good, but obviously not regulated, so maybe it had boogers and cum in it I dunno.
Yeah, thanks for that; that's why I will cultivating my own again. Urgh.... Perhaps, once it is started, I will park it in some bushes in Alviso for a bit. I imagine there might be some interesting yeast strains out there.

My wife makes great sourdough. If you ever make it to Oakland during the week, she would probably hand off some discard to get you started. :)

Sorry I don't have any resources closer to you.

Thank you, I actually need to drive to Berkeley sometime soon to have a concert violinist play a violin I had restored a few years ago, An odd segue I know, but there it is. Thank you again for the kind and generous offer for discard, Awesome!

Lemme chat with my wife - she doesn't know I volunteered her discard - and we'll figure it out. :thumbup

Finding "real" sourdough is a lost art. For decades, the sour "isn't". No tart bite of God given traditional sour flavor- the kind our dads would bring home when they went to San Francisco.

A few exceptions exist, but take a lot of ferreting to find.
  • Ad Astra in downtown Monterey & new one in Carmel Valley
  • Acme in the Ferry Building
  • Tartine in EssEff

Thank you very much for the generous offer; I just started my own today, and if it doesn't work out (it will), I will take you up on it. Thanks again!

This thread reminded me I've been neglecting my starter. I pulled it out of the fridge during the week and started feeding it, decided to make a couple of loaves. If anyone needs starter in or around SF, lmk - this is one of the many neighborhood starters shared during the early days of the pandemic.

That is a beautiful looking loaf! Hopefully mine come out resembling it. How long had your started been unloved in the fridge?

Thanks! I think it was close to a month and a half. It's been longer and still come back after feeding - these starters are pretty resilient. Good luck with your loaves, I have my second one in the oven now.

Sourghhdough discard pancake thingies with lingonberry jam tonight for a snack. Will report back if I wake up alive tomorrow. Yummy stuff anyway. Be sure to brush your teeth well, wow this is some gummy stuff. Arble garble farble woosh....
