Yes please
I just got a speeding ticket going 80+ on 280S near bunker hill. What are the consequences of going 80+ for 4+ miles?

Oh ya and please drive/ride slow too many cops around to do anything fun... :(

Hm... I dunno, but if it makes you feel any better, I just got an 85 in a 55 zone on I-80 in Emeryville (in front of Ikea). Must be the smell of cheap furniture intoxicating me. :twofinger

:troy CHP, what a bunch of suckers.:mag

tickets suck. I hope you can clear it with traffic school so doesn't go on the record. you pay the fine and any other admin costs plus the fee for the school.

actually the ticket does get recorded (how they track points and schools), if there is a next time the Judge will consider previous driving history. but with no assignable points by going to school your insurance should not go up.

long time ago before the wonderful DMV database it was like a revolving door. get a ticket, go to school. repeat. many times w/i a year even and no one was the wiser. no more.

Bummer,it looks like your going to traffic school.:D Was it a car or a bike that got you?

My 80+ ticket cost me about $175 total for the ticket and traffic school, four years ago. I got it on 101 in Redwood City. The CHP guy was cool tho. He had me dead to rights for speeding over a 100 or even reckless driving if he wanted. But, as soon as I saw him in my rear view mirror racing to catch up, I slowed down and began to change lanes into the slow lane and pulled over before he even hit the lights. I turned off the bike, got off the bike and took off my helmet. He thanked me for doing that. I think that is why he gave me the "hook up" on the ticket. Go to traffic school for sure.

fight them tickets~!

hey folks, a confession, in year 2000 i received 4 tickets. although i received em i fought each one taking me to san jose court 2 times, santa cruz one time and palo alto one time. i wont two ticekts because of "insufficient evidence" and two were dismissed because of lack of prosecution (meaning the officer who issued did not show up)

in palo alto they are allowed to reschedule so there still is a change you may lose.

what i did:

- go to court on date assigned and plead not guilty

- postpone to the max number of times for trial (i think 3 it max at most courts)

- then get your story straight since they have to prove you did what you probably did: )

- radar is not easy to use on bikes

- were there cars around when you got nailed?

** never ever, talk smack to the cop, never say "im taking you to court" since this will make em ready to do battle. just take the ticket and then go about it when you get home.

san jose chp seems like they just don't like going to court.

whatever you do, make sure you keep copies of everything, also be on time and polite. if there is one day to brown nose its your day in court.

i think mine was just luck but always plan ahead and dont show up in court with a not guilty plea and have nothing to back it up with.

peace,

john

I'm going to traffic school this time, but next time I'll fight it. I think I was speeding for sure, but I still don't think it was unjustified to use a lot of speed when merging onto the fast lane of another freeway.

Re: fight them tickets~!

I have a buddy who's a CHP officer. He tells me that they're not allowed to use radar on the freeways. The only way they can get you is to pace you. Has anyone else heard this? Is he BS'ing me?

i have heard this and i think it is true. tryin to tag someone on radar leaves alot of room for reasonable doubt i.e. calibration of the radar and proper usage of it as well. CHP vehicles are maintained on a daily basis and this is on record as well. i used to be in a reserve MP unit and it was filled with nothing but pork J/K dont mean to offend anyone. but pacing is a much more reliable and can find someone guilty of excessive speed beyond a reasonable doubt since "pacing" can be explained in a clear and understandable manner.

Someone told me awhile back that they aren't allowed to use it on most highways (I-5 being a big exception), but I never took the time to investigate.

About being "hooked up with the ticket" -- an officer told me once that many officers just pace you at whatever speed they want and give you a ticket for that speed. Example: officer pulls onto freeway, observes a vehicle going WAY faster than traffic, speed limit is 65 mph. He might just get up to 80 mph and see that he is not gaining on tje vehicle...so it's going 80 mph or faster. Pulls ove rthe vehicle and gives them a ticket for 80 mph or even 75 mph. Say the vehicle was going 90 mph. By not getting an real pace speed (90 mph), the officer doesn't have to endanger himself or others by having two cars going 90 mph instead of just one. Also, giving the driver a ticket for 80 mph will more likel result in the driver just paying the ticket because they know they were actually going faster.

My co-worer told me that there's a certain judge in San Jose (or is it Santa Clara) that totally hooks up traffic violators...lowers the fee be half and/or allows traffic school even if the person has gone in the previous 18 months very easily.

Wow, a lenient judge? Ask your friend for me cause I've got an 80 in 65 ticket coming up for bail/plea next month :)

its weird that they would not be able to use a radar gun on the freeway since i see their CHP cars on 237 radaring people as i go by after work. i work just off 237 and zanker road in san jose.

once i had the gun pointed at myself so i slowwwwwed down just in case...

i bet they use the gun on people often on the freeway, partly because people just dont have time to go to court and another reason would be people don't know the rules that the chp have to follow?

who knows, its all a big cat n mouse game...
