None, but my brother has 56 and counting.

I just saw a tight cluster of Starlink satellites go overhead from the southwest. They were packed pretty tightly, with one about two or three train-lengths ahead. Don't forget about the cool website https://james.darpinian.com/satellites/

Ferkin' autocorrect! Mods, please change Starling in title to Starlink, if it's not too much trouble. I am already putting on my fireproof suit over "Starling".....

Eff musk and all his products,

the world's sky does not belong to billionaires to litter
I absolutely agree but hey, they are there and are cool to look at if they are observable.

That's a bold stance—eff all product from a guy whose companies have electrified cars (saving millions of tons of CO₂), built reusable rockets that slashed launch costs by 90%, and beamed high-speed internet to remote villages, disaster zones, and even war-torn areas where no cable ever reaches.

As for 'littering' space: yeah, there are over 7,000 Starlink satellites up there, but they're in low orbit, designed to deorbit and burn up safely after ~5 years (unlike old junk that lingers forever). The trade-off? Connecting millions in underserved spots to education, telemedicine, and the global economy—while astronomers adapt with better tech.

If you truly despise all that progress, I respect the commitment... but careful, you're probably typing this complaint on a device that benefits from some of it indirectly.

:laughing

Remember that one time he told the UN that if they could solve world hunger for six billion dollars he'd fund it? Then they came up with a plan and he fucking stood them up?

Not at all, because who the hell can keep up with all the BS he spews?

Instead, he 'donated' $5.7b to the Musk Foundation but I'm sure it wasn't just a scheme to avoid taxes and that he really did try to help address starvation.

Well, most of his wealth is in Tesla stock held, if he were to liquidate that into cash to use for other purposes in any significant volume it would crater the value in a spiral and lots of other billionaires would be angrily texting him late at night, and nobody likes that.

The first and only time I saw the train was at StonyBARF, a bit drunk with my friend Jen, sitting around the fire. We saw the alien thing and thought we were witnessing the wildest and possibly most extraterrestrial thing we’d ever seen and snapped a blurry photo to show the world when someone announced the Starlink thing and dashed all our hopes in a two-syllable dis.

Yeah, my first time was a multi day Moto camping hot springs tour, night 1 at soldier meadows north of the playa

We may have been "out there"

I went from "WTF?!"
To "aw shit, that's so completely utterly Effed"
Massive buzz kill thinking about every person in the entire world having their night sky and natural wonder and beauty altered forever.

How does someone in a simpler culture explain to their children that those aren't stars anymore, EM is filling the sky with satellites!
