State OffRoad Vehicle Parks to Close Dec. 2017 - S.B. 249

The Haters have crafted legislation to specifically undermine and gut our program.

Please send a note to your state senator and the chair. Announcement from the BRC:

Dear BRC members and Action Alert Subscriber,

BRC believes one of the most critical access issues in 2017 is for CA OHV recreationists to engage
in the battle to reauthorize the current OHV program (SB742). This is a very complex legislative process. The fight will occur in stages over the next few months. Anti-access groups are hard at work to gut the current program via introduction of SB 249.

Between now and Monday, please write your own letter on your personal, club, or business logo and mail it in ASAP. If you would like to see a copy of your letter hand delivered to the committee before the March 14 hearing, please send it via email to - brdon@sharetrails.org

Your letter does not have to be long. Be respectful and concise. Explain what the OHV program means to you. You will be asking the Committee Chairman and Committee Members to OPPOSE SB 249 (Allen).

Some of the issues to consider include the OHV program's economic impact on rural areas. This national "Gold Standard" of OHV management, has an annual $20B economic impact, protects natural and cultural resources, serves approximately 6 million OHV recreationists and partners with county sheriffs/resource conservation districts/conservation groups. Since 80% of OHV recreation occurs on federal lands it also partners with the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, etc.

Again, make your letter short! No more than one page.

For reference on this issue, BRC has attached the 2007 OHV Coalition Letter of Support for SB742 and
our BRC March 1, 2017, Letter of Opposition to SB 249.

California State Capitol, Room 4038
Sacramento, CA 95814

Thanks for your attention to this matter!

I am amazed at the apathy being shown on this.

Once it is gone people will be crying saying wtf.
NOW is the time.

We saw what happened when people did not get active. We got Trump
If we lose this It will be too late to dress up as dirt biker and protest after the fact. It won't work. We don't have Hollywood stars willing to support our cause. We don't have news stations willing to fight the fight. WE are on our own.

If you ride dirt bikes and enjoy it or if you think your kids will or if you are just a cool moto person willing to support a part of our culture you may not actually participate in NOW is the time.

Step the F up!!!

Butch is pouring his heart into this. Kudos bro.

It only takes a few minutes to voice your opinion.
People who don't want us riding are way more active than we are.

They stand up and write and donate money and actually do stuff and they suck!! The politicians suck up to theses people and only our effort can make a difference. :rant.

Get off your lazy ass and do something. PLEASE.

From a CORVA guy:
...write short letters on their letterhead to the Committee it would be a good show that this a BAD bill and needs to be rejected. If they get the letters in by March 7th, the opposition will be noted in the official analysis that the Committee prepares for committee members prior to the hearing. Any help is greatly appreciated. Short letter is all that is needed. Just that existing OHV Division is a good program...

Sending my letter out tomorrow. Thanks for all you do Butch.

I just sent this to CORVA to send to committee, only, with my signature on it. I took a picture with my mobile...

Please note our opposition to SB-249 as it is contrary to public interest, and please oppose it for me as my representative. It is a biased and badly written bill by a special interest group targeting a recreation segment of our population they dislike.

For Reference, BARF has been around since 2002 and it likely is the most integrated motorcycle community in the country. BARF is the first ever AMA Online Motorcycle Community as well.

The bayarearidersforum.com site garners 2.5 to 3 million page views a month. Between 6 and 7 thousand different IP addresses visit BARF every day, over 30 thousand different ones a month. Most days 2,500 to 3,000 of our over 50K registered members log in.
BARF is also a member of the CHP 11-99 Foundation and is respected by the Law Enforcement Community.

Thank you

this just in from CORVA:

What Can You Do? Help Save the OHV Program

Find Your Legislator and send a polite letter to your representatives restating some of the following in your own words:
I am a constituent and would like you to oppose SB 249 (Allen).
This legislation would have an extremely harmful effect on the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Program.
The California OHMVR Program is a national model that provides high quality environmentally sustainable recreational opportunities for millions of motorized recreation enthusiasts.

Sent another note to my Assemblymen and my Senator.

Offered to talk to both if they would like to discuss this.
If that happens ... Butch you are in!

I just replied with the specific ARRRA link:

I modified the message a bit:

We have met, in person, and I have been to your office several times.
As your constituent and a member of Americans for Responsible Recreational Access I write to urge you to oppose SB 249. ...

My Senator is Beall, his local office is at 2105 S Bascom, just south of the Pruneyard in Campbell.

Yesterday I had a meeting with staff at my assemblyman, Ash Kalra.

I just sent this:
Thank you for meeting with me yesterday and listening to the concerns I see of the off highway vehicle (OHV) community. The legislation creating the Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHVMR) Division within California State Parks expires this year and new legislation is being crafted, some which gut the program, some which reauthorize it.

At this time I just want to confirm you support AB-1077, and tell me what influence your office has over SB-249.

I would love to share our OHV parks with you, the Assemblyman or any other staff. Hollister and Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Areas (SVRA, State Parks) are about an hour away form your office. Santa Clara County (Metcalf) Motorcycle Park (CMP) is only about 15 miles form your office. It would be and easy trip for you, informative, and it really a beautiful place. “Metcalf” as we commonly call it, is funded in part by the grant program which is at risk in the new legislation.

State OffRoad Vehicle Parks to Close Dec. 2017

FOREVER!!!!

Ok... listening..?

Politicians shit on us way too often and SB 249 is one turd we need to avoid.

Our programs go away in December 2017. As always the AMA is standing up to help us contact the people we need to influence with our Anti-:jaded message.

Butch has been all over this, but we need more than him to take some time. Can you give two minutes??

Senate Bill 249 would destroy this important program!

Action is easy thanks to the AMA.

Go HERE and use this pre-written note to voice your oppositions. PLEASE.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.
