Step aside, Bud Light, Modelo Especial is the beer of choice in America!

In the context of alcohol, water is best used as a whammy when you're expected to buy shots for strangers. Buy 50% water and 50% alcohol shots and pass them all out. Then watch the fun, and arguing....(pro tip, quickly collect the glasses right after consumption).

bought a case of Japanese beer at the Japanese grocery in El Cerrito for 27 bucks. Asahi extra dry, the side of the can said "product of Italy". Brewed and Packaged by Bira Peroni Rome Italy.

Guess who owns Peroni

don’t drink beer, but have it in the fridge for people who do. like to have an assortment (usually stella, negro modelo, sapporo, guinness and tecate + an IPA for BIL). never had anyone complain.

heard recently that craft beer is making big inroads into the large producers market share. and micro breweries are on the rise too. maybe people are just getting tired of drinking mass produced shit product. life’s too short - amiright?!?!

yes, you're def behind the curve, "heard"!

I haven't had "stella, negro modelo, sapporo, guinness and tecate " since ages and the last guiness I had was probably when I visited Ireland... (when I visited an Irish Bar in SF, I had... a San Luis Obispo beer. 805)

Which brings me to .. brand loyalty in beer. When I'm in Cali, I drink Cali beer.

When I'm in Ireland, I drink Irish beer. :laughing

like i said 'i don't drink beer'. at least not normally. we've got a lot of micro breweries around here, and have been in places that specialize - but they all seem to get really weird with their shit. prefer dark beer, but no, i do not want a dark beer that tastes like chocolate. :rolleyes recently was at a place and asked the dude what he recommended. told him no IPA's (never tasted one i liked). so the dude he brings me a sour. what-the-actual-fuck?!?! felt like throwing it at him. dark beer was off the table. 'got anything even remotely resembling a pilsner?' he came back with something halfway drinkable.

WRT guinness - visited the brewery in dublin. it's remarkable how well that beer travels.

that said, i am pretty loyal to california wine though. to wine in general. red wine specifically. :laughing

Add me to the list of people that laughed when so many neckbeards took a huge 'moral' stand to boycott Bud Light while likely still buying other AB products. You sure showed them!

My mother-in-law asked "why aren't domestic beers selling more here in America?"
How do I answer this?

I see what you did there...

I don't keep bud or other cheap beers in my fridge and I'm all for life is too short for bad beer but if I'm at the watering hole watching sportsball with friends, I'm sticking with the cheap stuff.

If you're buying shots for people and give them watered down shots, that's not a whammy, that's a party foul. Who wants to be known as the guy that messes with peoples' drinks?

Don't drink Peanut Butter Stout then.

Also, don't drink Turkey Barrel Bourbon Stout. (also California..hidden valley) More for me!!!

fuck the cheap shit. when me and my SO were young punks, becks was our go-to beer. will never forget buying it at a liquor store and the redneck dude behind the counter telling us 'you kids are the only ones who go for this stuff'. we were too stoned to give a shit. eating hamburger and rice to survive - but splurging on german beer. we had our priorities in order lol.

Regarding craft breweries: they've been struggling of late. Latest was Bear Republic (Racer 5) merging with Drakes in San Leandro due to market conditions. The blame was on "Covid", but there were other issues stewing before.

None the less, IIRC it was wineries in trouble before the craft breweries.

Changing markets. Seltzers are taking a huge market share from craft beer. Young people are drinking less beer. And ingredients and supplies are much more expensive than they were five years ago (like frigging double). Can't even find bottles these days, which is why most craft beers now come in the can. Also the 12 oz cans have become scarce, which is why the craft beers are all in the 15 oz cans.

That particular one was probably because Healdsburg was getting too expensive for them* or people not drinking beer there. It's friggin in the news...he called it Beverlyhealdburg...he complained "they can't even make a highschool football team this year" :wow :confused

.*... Too expensive for anyone really ...been happening a lot lately, I wonder why!

Not me. I make sure to order Arrogant Bastard whenever I’m in Europe. Just because, well…

stone has, had? i dunno a brewery in berlin. or at least somewhere in germany so one could argue arrogant bastard is european

anyhoo, to nobody in particular

-guinness is a boring as hell beer and tastes like paste. it is also a session beer
-hops are awesome. if you dont' like the taste of pine trees you'd better hate christmas too
-805 is just fancy budweiser as are all session beers. they're like decaffinated coffee: why bother
-i wish i could still drink beer and wine without a 3 day penalty phase. alergies, general feeling of sloth. so lame, what happened to my 20s?
-the budweiser plant in van nuys used to brew sapporo, in the late 1900s when i took a tour there at least that was the case. they private label a ton of stuff even for brands that aren't necessarily under the InBev umbrella

Never tried a beer I liked, they all taste like shite.

Fun fact, don’t actually have to taste shite to know it tastes like shite :nerd

I too used to be a beer snob. Drink what you like, who gives a rat's ass what someone else drinks?

YES. I mean for sure, clown everybody who doesn't like what you like, but no one should ever give a shit what others think and whatever you do, DRINK SOMETHING.

Well it's only shitty beer compared to good beer, but it's good beer compared to no beer. Ice cold is the key to shitty beer.

You are correct, sir.

it's possible to simultaneously not care what someone else is doing, and have an opinion about it
