Just for some perspective:
Win/DNF Ratio:
Stoner: 2.0 (2 wins for every crash)
Pedrosa 0.89 (~9 wins for 10 crashes)
Lorenzo: .087 (~9 wins for 10 crashes)
.
Don't know where the idea that Italian or Spanish sites "just make shit up" comes from; maybe what happens is second-hand translations make the original sound more definitive than they are.
U.S. journalism relies on unnamed sources all the time; a lot of stories wouldn't be possible without it. Dennis Noyes often runs stories with unnamed sources.

I remember Burgess' remark re Rossi-to-Ducati that "It’s a bunch of dickhead Italian journalists trying to out-scandal each other," but the stories are pretty upfront about it being a rumor or speculation. The riders are often quoted as saying this.
Links, por favor (see also my comment above about second-hand translations). How many stories have we seen that ended up being totally untrue where the source of the information was an italian site? I would be willing to go so far as to say that pretty much all of them have been.
That could be misleading.. How bout podium, or top 5 / DNF?
I'm not really understanding how that could be misleading but anyway...
Podium/DNF Ratios:
Stoner: 3.4
Rossi: 8.7
Pedrosa: 4.3
Lorenzo: 2.6

I don't see how you get much more cemented than Rossi already is.
Love him or hate him, he is the greatest of all time.
That changes things.. Pedrosa beats stoner..

Good link, thanks. Still not sure if it's a question of Italian rumor-mongering or just a result of a lot more writing on the subject. When it comes to yellow journalism, though, I don't think Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes are Italian.I think you might be the only person that doesn't believe the Italian media is yellow journalism. Even outside of MotoGP this is true.
However, if it helps:

There are also countless stories about Rossi going to Ducati from last year.
What does that change? Pedrosa and Stoner have nearly the same crash percentage but Stoner wins more often...and scores more points.
Regardless of the stats you use, Stoner has out-performed Pedrosa in nearly every category. The fact is, Stoner is no more of a crasher than Pedrosa and yet, again, he is known as one. Unfairly. Both Pedrosa and Stoner have 11 crashes.
I am real sure Nicky wouldn't allow that....Please DO NOT let that little pedrobot team up with Nicky again. It's bad enough he's even out there let alone a team mate again.
