streetfighters

I love how something that got its start as an accessable everyman type of thing can bring out so much snobbery. its so punk rock.

I'm with you on this. Most "authentic" streetfighers look like shit anyway with bullet casings and "knuckles", ridiculous tails, etc.. I like the custom ones that look more like some of the "factory fighters" with nice clean headlights and no stupid skull/bullet junk all over them.

^ bah the duke 690 is more of an ultimate urban SF that the superduke...
:x

I'd have to agree with this, my super duke r does not like the urban environment!
Good thing I live in the country, with lots of twisty, uncluttered roads :thumbup

That naked daytona up there is the hotness! Especially in all black.

lol...that post is snobby AT ALL :rolleyes

I converted my then new 1996 CBR900RR into a Street Fighter. Superbike performance, less weight and more comfort. Naked bikes are usually dumbed down versions of a Sportbike. Street Fighters have the same chassis, suspension and HP of a Sportbike. Rat bikes are Street Fighters that failed to evolve.

No, a streetfighter is a crashed bike with the fairings removed. Usually a sign you couldn't afford to replace the fairings.
PS, the B-king is a naked bike, I'm pretty sure the only thing that is "dumbed down" is the counterweight it has to keep it from flipping from too much power.

So I guess that makes the ducati streetfighter the adopted orphan of the flaming ghey couple?

Only in San Francisco. :twofinger ...I'm not a Duc fan either.

I think my next bike will be another Supermoto. Oh how I miss riding down stairs, over logs and into neighbors yards. :teeth

I test rode the Duc before I pulled the trigger on the Street Triple R. The STR rode more like a hooligan bike. That is, it felt like a Daytona with the plastics ripped off and a flatbar installed. I don't think I could have made a better streetfighter'esqe' bike.

If I had the shop to create a frankenstein bike (and the time) I would love to. I have an RZ350 that still needs a gas tank and turn signals before I can unleash it on the street. What is wrong with buying a streetfighter?

.

some rat bikes are street fighters, not all street fighters are rat bikes.

if you were to see some of the build quality of super high end custom street fighters, you would realize that they are not rat bikes. i'm not really a big fan of those bikes. nor am i a fan of rat bikes that are so badly taken care of that even if they run awesomely, bleeding the brakes takes 5x as long as it should because your master cylinder is zip tied to some random bracket that you can't reach and you've duct taped the lid on because it's cracked in two and you're too cheap to spend $10 on a new one.

personally, i like a bike that's stripped down and mean, but runs well and is user friendly. something that can get knocked over while parked and come back up looking no worse for wear. that means no polished frames, custom fabbed fiberglass up tails, etc. but i can still appreciate those things and i know those are still streefighters, just of a different ilk.

A streetfighter is nothing more than another name for a ratted out naked bike.
It is a naked bike, or a rat bike.

Well, the terms streefighter, ratbike, and naked bike are usually tossed around, and to some people, are even interchangeable. However, if you ask me, they have their differences.

A ratbike is a street bike on which a lot of the parts are not stock, jury rigged, from a totally different bike, or homemade. They may or may not be naked.

A naked bike is one without lower fairings. A lot of naked bikes nowadays have a windscreen over the gauge cluster and upper fairings, but are still considered naked bikes.

A streetfighter is a modified supersport. They are usually naked, with dirt bike bars, bar-end mirrors, chopped or raised tail, and a fork-mounted aftermarket headlight. They are usually not ratted out.

Of course, these categories overlap. However, they have their distinctions.

That's why I love my bike. It still runs great, but isn't a liability if I park it at the curb and have some driver knock it over - no expensive plastics to break. Hell, I think it runs better now that I took off the ~15 pounds worth of fairing and bodywork.

Fine, wanna ride your straight off the showroom floor bike to bux and call it a streetfighter go ahead. It just seems like a disgrace to the people that actually got their hands dirty making their fighters.

So the classification of a bike as a 'streetfighter' or not isn't based on the capabilities or style of the bike, but rather on how it was built? :wtf

I think you just proved his point about the snobery.

This is the same stupid logic that concludes that to be a real motorcyclist you have to ride year round, etc., etc.,

maybe we should start another thread for bickering about the is/is not a streetfighter garbage... I believe the thread is about posting some pics up, and seein who's got a bike of their own that they have built.... :ride

Fine, I'm a snob, I don't respect those who take a picture and call it a painting.

All those chopper riders are snobs too huh? I'd like to see you tell them that the next time you're posin at bux.

Well, I personally think it is the style of the bike, and Duc's "streetfighter" doesn't fit that style at all.

Seriously, a streetfighter is all about cutting down size and weight. That's why most of them are naked, some have chopped tails and shorty exhausts. On the other hand, the Duc streetfighter has a lot of bodywork, dual can exhausts, and a longer wheelbase. What the hell is up with all that?
