So I need to remove to screw that is lock tighted in place and won't budge with a regular screwdriver, any suggestions? I'm afraid that using a impact drive might split the heads and ruin them. So does anyone have a better suggestion.

What size screw? What is it holding? What kind of head? What kind of drive?

'Need much more information before suggestions can be made. And a very close up photo of the screw head would be very helpful as well.

exactly, heat it up with a small torch, place screwdriver in screwhead, tap screwdriver with a hammer a couple of times and it should come out

or heat gun but yes heat will make the job much easier....IF it can be applied safely without damaging other components.

sometimes you need to lean into it and tighten a hair to break it loose, then lean into it and back it out.

My approach has always been to heat the area immediately around the screw and not direct the flame directly onto the screw itself which will still get hot. Hopefully just melting the loctite will do it.

And once you get the old screw out don't use loctite on the new one unless it's called for in the manual.

I usually pull out the phone-a-friend card when I get a stuck bolt. :laughing

Do you have enough clearance to stick in a small set of vice grips if you can't impact or torch it?

soldering iron can also be a good method for heating up just the screw. if locktite is really the only thing keeping it stuck, heating the screw should suffice

The moment something doesn't budge, I take a manual impact to it. No screwing around, no rounded heads, impact It.

And of course, the invocation of fallen gods as mentioned in another thread. :thumbup

Then beer.

its a flat head, sitting flush mounted in to my leftside crank case cover plate..

a couple of suggestions will probably work.

#1 heat gun will make the job much easier.

#2 soldering iron can also be a good method for heating up just the screw. if locktite is really the only thing keeping it stuck, heating the screw should suffice.

Are you talking about the large flathead on the inspection port? Or one ot the little guys dead center on the cover?

For the inspection cover, I'd whack it a couple times with a plastic deadblow hammer, then try a tire iron, or the biggest flathead I had. If I had to, I'd forge out a special tool just for it but then... I has a forge. :teeth

If it's the little 6mm guys in the center, I probably would have taken the manual impact to 'em almost immediately.

I used an impact driver when I took mine off the monster. It didn't damage the head.

dont even bother without a manual impact. you're sure to mess them up without it, them suckers are tight.

The worst that could happen is you blemish it with the impact on the way out and have a perfect excuse to buy a nice billet anodized one from Corsair. They come with stainless hardware and are $22.
