Looking in to getting a new lid and am curious what ppl think about there suomy's. I have a cheap hjc lid now, but would like something better all around.

all brands have cheap and expensive lines.

regarding suomy, you are going to get 3 lines:
Spec1r/Extreme
pro: its light weight always have cool graphics comfy pads
cons: f'ing expensive as hell, the shields are expensive as shit, pod system is pain in the ass and requires a tool/screwdriver to change shields
Vandal
pros: relatively inexpensive, cool graphics, comfy pads, easy to remove shield, very light
cons: only 2 shell sizes, shield is expensive
ventus
cons: its a piece of crap

if i were you i'd consider the HJC FS-15 Carbon/Elbowz helmets. This is the helmet ben spies wears. Its very lightweight comfortable, shields are inexpensive and easy to service and change without tools

I have a Vandel and I haven't really found any cons yet honestly...

I have a spec1r and like it but it has a lot of wind noise, well vented which causes the noise. Only helmet I must wear ear plugs with.

had a specr1...best helmet I've ever tried on. VERY light and comfortable. The comfort is like night and day compared to my Shoei RF1000. I know its aesthetics but the paint job on those lids are out of this world. The only downside like mentioned before is that the wind noise is loud! Wear plugs

Unbreakable visor.

Lightest helmet manufactured.

Superior venting and fit.

No bs - try one, you'll love it!

If you find any of the above to be untrue - contact me. :thumbup

btw - no helmet company in America has the customer support that Suomy does...simply contact me, I will not let you down.

I have a Spec1R Extreme.
Very noisy. Very light.. very comfy.
Much wider field of view than an AGV helmet.

I've owned the Spec1r, Extreme, and KBC VR1.

Headshape= I have a round face, HJC and Shoei hurt, Suomy fits nice, similar to the Arai rx7.
Noise= 'y as hell, I wear ear plugs.
Paint jobs= beautiful, cool looking.
Side plates= good to practice taking them on/off in ideal conditions for those possible un-ideal moments. Snapping them back in place can be scary for a $500 lid.
Washing the inside of the visor w/ warm soapy water and tshirt "wiped off" the anti-fog . . .dont do it.
Very light.
Stock extreme visor has some tint to it, nice.

pros:

very protective helmets - know of a few (too many) that crashed wearing a suomy spec1r and the helmet did it's job and beyond....one sled down the road for a good distance and pace enough to wear a hole through the helmet and even hit a mailbox and still came out fine....:wow

awesome paintjobs on them - a lot better looking graphics than most others including the the pricier arai/shoei...

OEM visor resist fogging..

great venting for hot days...

padding seems to mold with body temp...

cons:

loud as mentioned...

sucks on very cold days due to the aggressive vents...

aftermarket visors fog up the worst than any other helmets...

paddings stay stiff on cold days...

Mine is fantastic as well Spec 1R, excellent protection, vision, fog free, and super light, but very noisy. Like the man stated wear ear plugs.

Went from the the shoei rf-1000 to the spec1r, and I'll never go back.

With the soumy on track, I don't get reminded that I'm wearing a helmet. My shoei used to get buffeted around in the wind on fast straights or when I'd head check. With the soumy, I don't know it's there until I pull back into the pits and pop the visor.
