Swingarm pivot bolt -service it

Easy peasy. I greased the shaft last time I was in there so I'm sure that helped.

What exactly gets stuck to what? Is it the shaft corroding to the cases? (Not the actual cases but the bushing-like inserts that the shaft rides in.)

Yes, shaft to bushings. Or shaft corodes and rusts in between bushings making removal nearly impossible. Plenty of stories with sawzalls and or bench presses involved. Even swingarms sacrificed when no amount of heat, oil penetration, or pressure from bench press could break them loose.
 
Anti-sieze, di-electric grease, waterproof grease, teflon lube, moly grease, graphite grease.

Got an Air Head Beemer for almost free but it had been outside and idle for about three years. 100% disassembly and while apart wire brushed and prepped.

Assembly was with all of the above. Such an easy bike to service these days, nothing corroded, nothing jammed, nothing welded to one another.

Including swing arm bearings (not bushes, yay BMW.)
 
I posted this in Dirty Barfing, but I went through all the bearings from swingarm on back (linkage, etc.), and they were all good and greasy. Except for the lower shock bearing for some reason, it was dry and all the needles were seized in the cage. What the hell?

This post looks old but if you have the problem described, I just went thru the nightmare. This was the most stuck bolt I have ever experienced on a motorcycle. I found out from my favorite Honda guy, that they do not lube these bolts during assembly. They then corrode until the bushings and the bolt are nearly fused together.

I searched the web and saw a few different methods. My bolt took about 75 foot pounds of torque using this puller to edge out of the swing arm in about .040" increments until it reached an inch out of the frame, at that point I could drive it out with a drift and a 3 pound sledge. The hollow pivot bolt I.D. is the correct diameter for tapping a 10 X 1.5mm bolt. Tap the inner hole of the swingarm pivot bolt, then you can thread a puller bolt into it.

I used two cans of PB Blaster on this thing. It took great patience but it did come out in good condition. The bolt made a terrible cracking sound each time it moved, but it moved.
