This is one of my favorite tattoos. It was done by a close friend using traditional samoan/polynesian tools. All my others were done with modern machines.

yeah. the tattoo was done in taditional polynesian, but i have A LOT of filipino tats, too (second gen pinoy). Anyway, PM me and I can set you up with my cuz, he's local and a world renowned artist in filipino/new tribal tattooing. Let me know.

Might be a weird question but saw a movie recently, Tattooist, which was centered around these tribal/polynesian tattoos. It said that the designs are family based like Kilts were passed down in familys in Scotland. Does the one you got have any family basis or purely a nice pattern/design?

Not a weird question. I get it all the time. The tattoo was done by a very close friend. He knows me and a lot about my family history. The symbols and patterns in the tattoo mark my journey through life so far. It started with my heritage (filipino) then gives tribute to my family, then to my profession. I was in the Navy. And my family, like many filipino families, were born fishermen/sailors. The shape of the tattoo is the sail of ancient pacific canoes which carried many ancestors all around the pacific. I could go on and on about the meanings, but it would be too much to write. PM me if you want to know more. But to answer your question, EVERY detail, even the shape and placement of the tattoo, has meaning and pays tribute my family.

Gotten a lot of requests to post more of my ink in this style. Here ya go. Just like to first one, these tattoos were "benchmarks" in my life, their meanings are rooted in the events surrounding my life at the time. Hope you like.

edit: found a picture from way back when the inside of my leg was finished (done by mark bode, original artist of the ninja turtles how sweet is that haha)
