Id be happy with a car that just got me through traffic so I could zone out.
It doesn't work 100% of the time. I've seen it lose the lane on 101 coming out of SF.
Also it seems to apply the brakes automatically if you don't keep your hand on the steering wheel for a certain period of time.
Most new cars that are not econoboxes have this type of system as an option.
It's great for sitting in traffic or road trips, but hardly a replacement for an actual driver.
it's a trip, but i'm startig to like driving electric. It's just so quiet and smooth![]()
Yeah, I really enjoy farting around in my little orange creamicle colored Fiat 500e too. Smoooooooth, quiet, "quick" and a little go kart of it's own kind. Just wish it had a much better recharge option like the tesla. I could imagine 10 minutes would get me from near zero to almost full in my little fiat on that tesla supercharger.
It's certainly more than advanced cruise control that is typically only speed adjustments (zero to set point to zero). Tesla's will stay within their lane (on less than perfectly straight lanes), 280 from SJ to SF for instance. They will also change lanes when the driver signals (without input to the steering wheel).
This is not that special. Other cars have this.
You still need to keep hands on steering wheel, and it's far from perfect.
What other cars have a semi-autonomous driving system comparable to Tesla?
I realize that a crap-load of cars have adaptive cruise, and collision avoidance. I'm not talking about those.

I saw the first Model 3 with paper plates & not MFG plates today. Looks nice in red.
I guess I'll get one when the lease on my current EV runs out. What's the wait time supposed to be right now?

Nothing like guiltlessly and noiselessly just leaving most cars behind, or hooning around at 6am in the woods and not bugging the shit out of your neighbors![]()

Have to be very careful in what I say, but, you can 'skip the line' by choosing options that are available now instead of stuff like AWD etc.
What lease do you have? Might be worth buying at the end until your M3 is ready - the price of used short-range EV's is just laughable. Not sure how much further they CAN fall if you were to own it for a yearish.
I'm perfectly happy with the RWD/small battery version, so I am hoping before year-end, but, I'm also number 900 on the list.
Having the smaller battery will be a pain exactly twice per year, going to Palm Springs, but the kids want to stop at least twice, so...
The red is sexy![]()

Lease on mine ends in 1 year; getting the M3 around November, but seriously considering buying the orange booble-car at the end of the lease (they are sooo freaking cheap!).
What my GF pays in gas would pay off the Fiat in about 2 years, even charging at peak rates.
The 0-30 on the Fiat is super-fun. Just wish it was RWD; damn thing lights up the fronts far too easily.
i know a lot of people that love the HOV lane access with EVs. I've read that CA legislature is not planning on extending this priveledge past 2019 (when it expires). I wonder how big the effect will be when this runs out (like green stickers)
