Test Rode an Indian Scout

I would be interested in the scout for a daily for my 15 mile commute. I like the idea of it, and the classic looks.

Riding my CBR I feel sad that the only turns it gets is the onramp and offramp these days.

I thought the Scout looked and felt sort of "chincey" in person. That headstock and downtube are not amazing looking. Good Sportster alternative, but the star bolt is much better looking to me.

What exactly is better about the Scout over the XR1200?

It can't be the riding position. A feet-forward bike is a no-go for me.

Me, too. I suppose something north of 2k would put the pegs where they belong....

Yeah, if I felt the urge to own one, I'd move the pegs. It's a cool bike, just a tad too far forward for my taste.

I personally have no desire to get used to forward controls, my preference is to have my feet under me and not all my weight on my ass.

Of course, YMMV...

The pegs are a little bit forward but it works for me. I wouldn't knock something until you try it. On the xr the rears sets were too high up for my 6 foot frame and my groin would tense up. The Scout feels a lot lighter than the xr and the lighter steering is no comparison. The xr does have better brakes. I'm sure the scout engine is better, quicker, more responsive and fun than the xr. My xr had numerous oil leaks due to falty seals and had to be rebuilt after 6,000 miles. I also had electrical problems and a swelling gas tank wich was repacked 4 times and needed to be replaced again when I sold it. The Scout feels more comfortable and manuverable than the xr. On the xr you feel your sitting on top of the bike, not so with the scout. The Scout also has 3 different configurations for the pegs and handle bars.

I've had a chance to demo the Scout several times and really enjoyed it. At 6'2", Spirit nudged me pretty hard to the "tall" configuration with the pegs moved out even farther. I much preferred the normal config and was tempted to give the shorter version a try. It's a solo bike. They do offer a tiny pill of a backseat for a pillion, but it doesn't look very functional or attractive. It's a lovely engine, the bike handles well and maintenance is easy (or cheap if you would rather take it in).

You cant compare the XR1200 to this bike, they are totally different,no?
That's what I keep trying to point out, but apparently a set of footpegs two whole feet in front of where they are on the Harley aren't really forward pegs and don't make a difference when riding. :rolleyes

I don't even know why he would put that comparison out there at all. He should be comparing it to a Xl1200s or something or like Rob said a V-rod. XR is a totally different bike.

Maybe he is comparing them because he has actually owned an XR?

Naw, couldn't be that.

The Scout is Indians answer to the Sportster and the xr is a Sportster, a souped up one at that.
