Test rode BMW S1000XR and S1000R

I'd like to ride a bmw xr, but I feel since it didn't win Baja a bajillion times it doesn't deserve the "XR" moniker.

And yes I saw the dirt race prepped version of the BMW xr. That doesn't count at all.

:laughing BaronVonGrumble :laughing I love it what a great video and an even better advert for anyone sitting on the fence over one of these.:thumbup

I'm sure the MTS1200 is a great bike, it's just sooooo friggin' ugly, it hurts. :wtf

But then the BMW... is a BMW. :p

Out of BMW's current lineup, I think I'd like the S1000RR and XR the best. Haven't tried 'em, but based on what I've ridden, those would probably be the ticket for me.

I know some people will think I'm insane, but I find the BMW boxers to be incredibly dull. They may have sufficient power, decent brakes, etc, but they sucked all the fun out of it. Just my opinion. Definitely try one or two.

That's not insane. I have a GS because it's perhaps the most competent do-it-all motorcycle available. When I'm facing a high mileage day or want to explore a remote corner of the state, the GS is the clear choice. Supremely comfortable, feature-packed, rugged, high capacity luggage, magical suspension and pleasant power. The thrum of that boxer twin matches the mood of connecting small mountain towns via remote roads lined with redwoods or pines.

But while the LC motor is more lively than the older ones, and the GS soundly beat the KTM 1190 and gen 1.5 Multi 1200 in the CycleWorld Alps test, I still don't think it's a "fun" bike. I never choose the GS for fast local day rides.

KTM motors are more lively and rewarding, and I haven't been able to give up my Multi 1200 as a 'comfortable sportbike' because it feels 2/3 the size of the GS and has a stonkin' engine.
