Texas Hog Control - Ted Nugent Style

pfft, you could trap them for a lot less money, and then dispatch them with one shot to the melon. you could harvest the meat and give it to the homeless or less fortunate. this way half of those pigs shot in that vid will die a slow painful death. it's just a ball swinging video. it's fun to ride in choppers and shoot guns. now they have an excuse to take it a step further. most of those pigs were probably wounded and ran off and died. pigs are tough.

Perhaps... But traps take time and dont blow-out the hogs from your ranch in a day, like a helicopter and a couple of country boys firing autos would...

:laughing

I saw their show (same theme) last year and they had guys in trucks dispatching the wounded and harvesting the hogs. Post party; they gave the hogs to locals - emphasis on the poor and elderly. I cant say none of the hogs limped off and died later (I'm sure some did) , but the goal for the TX program is eradication. This may not be the best way to hunt hogs for everyone, but its better than indiscriminate poison and quicker than traps. And you are right - looks like a lot of fun!

Texas should outlaw this type of hunting, it's not sporting or humane... they outlawed internet hunting when it was briefly popular.

you have sick fuck tendencies. you should get that checked out.

Where did you get that from? Are you upset cause Ted killed more pigs then you did? :twofinger I have never killed a single animal and you hunt pigs but somehow I am the sick fuck.

What about the invasive carp. Should we sing the song of my people in hopes they go away as well?

Lester buddy, this isn't hunting. This is extermination and there is a HUGE difference.

To further my point read this article which talks about helicopter shooting. You seem to think that Ted was the first person to do this.

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/A-Plague-of-Pigs-in-Texas.html

Even furthermore - Should I just go out there alone with my dogs and kill them that way? Let the dogs grab a hold of them and tear into their flesh while I catch up and then shoot them after I call off my blood drenched dogs? Thats totally humane, totally.

Ted wanted to piss you guys off and he did.

The only thing that pisses me off about this, are the lies and misrepresentations.

If you want to say: "Hey, look at me, I get to shoot automatic weapons from a helicopter and kill stuff !!" then I'm fine with that.

However, that's NOT what they are saying, it's more like; " we're selflessly performing heroic deeds to preserve our American way of life, and protect our countrymen !!" , which is utter hogwash.

Most hunters get over the "it flies it dies", " if it moves, shoot it" attitude somewhere along the line, and see other living creatures as living creatures, rather than objects to be used for their own amusement. Ted used to be big on promoting the attitude of having respect for other living creatures. Maybe this is all Obama's fault :twofinger

If eradication were truly the objective, other means would be employed ;)

I see Lester's point - confusing what Ted and Pig Man are doing with typical hunting activity is wrong and not accurate to any degree. But this is less about hunting and more about removal of an invasive species. The alternative is for the state to hire folks to hunt these animals down at the expense of the taxpayers.

I see what you did there.....

I agree that Ted's objective is not clearly stated. But I am very interested in these "other means" of which you note... How do you propose the state of TX effectively manage the elimination of 4,600 wild hogs a day..?

bait, trap, kill

pay a bounty

set up free meat processing access, with possible supply chain to charitable causes.

work out legalities for access to private land

???

You know, stuff that's slightly more complicated than flying around shooting the shit out of everything.

why not mount a chain gun onto the dam helo or couple .50 auto's? you can have a contest on who produces a finer red mist.

FUCK THAT 20MM cannon

in all honesty that would be more humane than what they are doing. waste of meat but more humane.

You're thinking small Lester... Land Mines ! Claymores !1! Mortars !

Come to think of it, add one more to my list of alternatives;

Practice for military

Lester if you had bothered to do your research then you would know that the meat goes to the homeless and using larger caliber rounds would destroy the meat.

Keep trying buddy :thumbup

Wait -so you think shooting wild pigs from the sky is common and normal in TX..? Uhh, no. Its common for profitable ranches with money and a hog pest problem.... Its common for a good pilot with lots of hogs and land to charge a few thousand $$ a person... But this is hardly normal behavior... It aint cheap.

Normal is getting to know a few ranchers, who then trust you not to kill actual livestock or people, and hunting a few hog (or as many as you can take and not waste).

It is actually really common and at $500.00 an hour which includes EVERYTHING I think its a deal.

that'd make just about any species want to evacuate! :laughing

I have zero problem with what they are doing. I've been face to face with a feral pig in the past and let me tell you, they are NO freakin' joke. They are easily the most aggressive animal in the wild and will charge even a full grown man on sight. It's really amazing how only a couple of generations from captivity a hog changes back to this feral animal.

What I do have a problem with is HOW they are doing it. Don't use an assault weapon and just spray and pray. We have enough problems keeping the government off of our weapons as it is. If you want to be a hunter do it on the ground 1 shot 1(2 or 3 if you're good/lucky :twofinger) kill. Sure you can use a helo to get around and spot if you want but don't be a pussy about the actual killing even if it is for eradication purposes.

With that said... Want some bacon? My 30-06 is ready any time someone wants to go play. But you have to clean it and pack it. :laughing

http://helicopterhuntingsafety.com/hog-hunting.html – minimuim 3 hours at $600, plus the $350 safety class - $2150

http://www.texasvarminthunting.com/TexasHelicopterPigHunting.html - 4 hour min $5900.00

http://www.cedarridgeaviation.com - two person min at $2150 each - $4300

http://www.bcboutfitting.com/helicopter/ - 2 hour hunt $1600

http://www.lonestarranchhunts.com/HELICOPTER-WILD-HOG-HUNTS.html- $1250 best bargain – up to 3 people get to divide the cost
The last might qualify for your $500 range, but it does not count the safety class (for each person) as far as I can tell.

So not uber expensive.... Flying at tree-top level shooting... Not sure I'd go the bargain basement route...
