The Home Grower's Thread

You should really try mixing your own completely organic soil. Water only, no more dealing with chemicals, flushing, etc.

I made the switch and will never do it any other way as far as soil grows are concerned. Let nature do it's thing

Not a terrible idea :)

I was thinking of 50/50 perlite/coco for my batch of 4 autos.

http://www.springpot.com/ I got 4 of the 5 gallon springpots

Eh, I have done it. Too much chaos for me. I prefer the proficiency of mixed nutrients and yield. They also make liquid organic nutrients too in case yah didn't already know.

Im a soil and sun guy now. I know not everyone can do it but it sure makes me happy to go that route.

Coming home and seeing a full tent under the glow of 1000 watts of HPS was cool too, just not into it these days.

I don't get enough sun.

I can buy pre-made hot soil. It says to add nothing to the water other than PH balancing but what about RO water?

Just for fun I priced out the following super soil recipe:

Composted Super Soil Ingredients

6 bags x 10-gallon Roots Organic Soil (For a total of 60 gallons or 210lbs of soil)

2 bags x 50L (35 lbs) Biobizz Light-Mix soil (Total of 70lbs)

2 bags x 30 lbs Organic Earthworm Castings (Total of 60lbs)

1 box 6 lbs Fish Bone Meal (3-16-0) Note: 3-15-0 or 3-18-0 can also be used

1 cup Dolomite Lime (“prilled” if possible)

½ cup Azomite (0-0-0.2)

1 box 5 lbs Blood Meal (12-0-0)

1 bag 4 lbs Happy Frog Bat Guano (0-5-0)

¾ cup Epsom Salt

$432.99

Though I suppose I likely don't need that much for 20 gallons of soil. THat's 340 lbs plus you need to compost it yourself.

I think I need 20 lbs which is $108 including shipping from Amazon and a lot less heaache :)

Ok

Silicate, calcium, magnesium, and fulvic acid are all naturally occurring organic compounds. They are in the soil and the water. When you remove the soil and water with OR you have to replace them. It's not some dodgy science trying to pump up with the juice, it's the same supplements you would have to take if those vitamins weren't in your diet too.

As for soil VS a neutral medium. I can change the nutrient mix daily if I want. Something goes wrong in soil you're stuck with the result. Not to mention you can't add supplements as the plant moves from one stage to the next.

There is a reason outdoor wholesales for $.50 a gram, and indoor sells for $5. That's all I'm saying about that.

I already ordered SI and fulvic, and I'm definitely doing 50/50 for the next grow to take advantage of the adjustability as per your recommendation. Everything you've told me has paid off.

I have a plethora of brand name nutrients from all my previous attempts, is there anything you'd recommend personally for me to start for the base nutes?

I have:
DynaGrow
DynaBloom
CalMg
General Hydroponics Flora Grow, Bloom, Micro Combo Fertilizer
General Hydroponics General Organics Go Box

GH is fine, but you'll need Big Bud (powder only) weeks 2-5, and either MOAB, or my preferred Overdrive for 6-8. Add bud swell (liquid bat shit) to weeks 6-9 at 15ml a gallon. Week 9 is flush with just bud swell.

You can add enhancers weeks 4-8, but only if you're having a weight issue. Not running C02 might make them mute.

Mills is better than GH, but twice the money.

Got the acid and Silicate and added them to the RO water which I had already added CalMg. I'll keep one 5 gallon bucket of that and another one for the ones still flowering. THe larger ones are still in the growing white hair phase while the shorter ones are much closer to done. Also MOAB and Big Bud but it's too late for this grow. The guano is on the way.

Just for reference, RO water + fulvic acid, + Si + Cal Mg + bottle recommended amounts of Generall Hydroponics FloraBloom and FloraMicro resulted around 1000 ppm and 6.2 PH
