Old school, "The Searchers", one of the John Ford greats...

New school, "Jeremiah Johnson"....

Save your "Tombstone", et al, they weren't genre changers like these films.

Say what you want about Tombstone, but it's a fantastic movie and deserves a spot among the greatest western films. Add Unforgiven to that list too.

While we're at it, I'm going to put up Legends of the Fall as well. Just to rankle you old-timers :twofinger :laughing

Searchers: We saw for the first time, a dark side of John Wayne :thumbsup

Jeremiah Johnson: The Native American woman was homely. But once naked under the blanket, she was DDG!

Another of my favorites. Audience, at the time, couldn’t accept an evil Henry Fonda. Featuring doe-eyed Claudia Cardinale and beady-eyed Chuck Bronson.

"Tombstone" is a 2 hour tired trope... great for memes though... huckleberry. :laughing

"Unforgiven" is one of the last few decent Eastwood movies.

also directed by Mr Jones. plus, Mr Helm.

neo western brilliance.

Yeah, Kevin Costner was great in it as Wyatt Earp. :thumbup

What, he was in a different movie? Couldn't tell... ;)

:laughing

Also a good movie. Came out around the same time as Tombstone.

Can we add Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? That was a fun one!

I think No Country for Old Men counts as a modern Western. And it's a great movie

+1 on BC&TSDK … sure I saw that movie in a theater when it came out, when I was a kid—and also sure I’d have shed tears at the end if they’d continued the movie a bit longer that they did.

also love “Tombstone” … and “Unforgiven” is almost in a league of its own.

"Last Picture Show" sure, if you can name the movie that was the last picture showing... without looking.

Cybill Shepherd was beautiful back then. Bogdanovich was on a hot streak in the early 70's, "What's Up Doc?" and "Paper Moon"(Madeline Kahn, FTW :laughing) along with "Last Pucture Show"...
