The NHL Thread, 2012/2013 season

Do tell me, just how we're not. Serious question. Why do you guys think Sharks fans don't know the game ??

Not that I give two shits what you think, but I'm curious why either of you think what I said is funny.

Non-traditional market coupled with the fact that soybean is an O-6 Red Wings fan. Aka, completely unfounded bullshit assumption.

ommm...because every time i go to a game most of the people don't know what they are watching. might as well be watching the fargin ice capades.

example-

idiot sitting next to me: "that's bullshit! that was a goal! i can't believe they called that back"

me: "dood had both feet in the crease before the puck"

idiot: "what's the crease?"

It is hilarious when Northern Californian's think they are a true hockey fan base. That is why a single local baseball or football game will get higher ratings then an NHL playoff game here....

I will continue to stream KHL and Swedish Elite League feeds to get my fix until the NHLPA pulls its head out of its ass.

What you describe happens in EVERY sport, in EVERY game played, and EVERYwhere in the world.

i hear ya, it's just that in boston most of the crowd knows what's going on and being involved in higher functioning groupthink is just more satisfying...that said, there's way more angry drunk nitwits so maybe it's a wash.

Total wash. You're comparing an O-6 market with a twice experimental market, with the later being successful. The SJ Sharks, albeit will continually fall to the likes of NFL, MLB, and NBA in popularity, is a profitable undertaking in a non-traditional market. Why, because there aren't any frozen ponds; literally.

Not trying to preach to the choir given I'm unfamiliar with your knowledge of ice hockey in the Bay Area, but there is a massive, yet rather quiet, following of all things hockey. For reference, Logitech Ice is the largest ice facility this side of the Mississippi with a competitive adult league of +4000 players ranging in skill from Level A to Level EEEE.

.

It's hilarious when people don't realize that baseball and football get higher ratings than hockey in EVERY city in the U.S., not just San Jose. :rolleyes

San Jose has tons of Canadian and East Coast transplants, the largest adult hockey league in the U.S., and consistently one of the highest attendance ratings in the NHL for over a decade. Plenty of knowledgeable fans here. There are idiots in every arena in every NHL city.

the funny part was just that 'chik went out of her way to say that 'we're pretty knowledgeable fans', when to someone that grew up in a serious hockey town, not so much, overgeneralizingly speaking of course...no reason for butthurt...just the troof. the crowd as a whole just doesn't get whats going on sometimes..

Good to hear about the Bulls. I actually don't know too many people from SF who watch any hockey. Maybe I know the wrong people :dunno Regardless, good to see another team bolster a robust hockey region. Gonna have to check it out. Are tickets expensive?

Tickets are not expensive, I bought the cheapest tickets and then spent most of my time right behind the goal in the beer garden.

Lol, they cancelled the season up until Nov. 1. Who gives a fuck about 11 days?

That is the owners way of speaking directly to the players. I'm sure they realize the Dickhead Fehr isn't going to be intimidated by it, but the quicker they communicate to the players that real games and real money is going out the window, the more pressure they put on them. Yes, it's small, but it's something.

At this point, I'm even more convinced that we won't see hockey this year, because I think the offer that the NHL just put out there is basically the best they're going to offer, period. If they players don't get really really close to it pretty quickly, like the next 7 days, I think the owners' mindset will change to accepting the fact that the season is lost.

I think that Fehr dude is a bad seed. Who hired him?

NHLPA negotiating committee would be my best guess;

Craig Adams - Pittsburgh Penguins
Adrian Aucoin - Columbus Blue Jackets
Alex Auld - Ottawa Senators
David Backes - St. Louis Blues
Marty Biron - New York Rangers
Brad Boyes - New York Islanders
Chris Campoli - Montreal Canadiens
B. J. Crombeen - Tampa Bay Lightning
Mathieu Darche - Montreal Canadiens
Rick DiPietro - New York Islanders
Shane Doan - Phoenix Coyotes
Brandon Dubinsky - Columbus Blue Jackets
Ruslan Fedotenko - Philadelphia Flyers
Alex Goligoski - Dallas Stars
Ron Hainsey - Winnipeg Jets
Scott Hartnell - Philadelphia Flyers
Jamie Langenbrunner - St. Louis Blues
Manny Malhotra - Vancouver Canucks
Steve Montador - Chicago Blackhawks
Dominic Moore - San Jose Sharks
Brendan Morrison - Chicago Blackhawks
Douglas Murray - San Jose Sharks
George Parros - Florida Panthers
Chris Phillips - Ottawa Senators
Cory Schneider - Vancouver Canucks
John Tavares - New York Islanders
Shea Weber - Nashville Predators
Kevin Westgarth - Los Angeles Kings
Dan Winnik - Anaheim Ducks
James Wisniewski - Columbus Blue Jackets
Henrik Zetterberg - Detroit Red Wings
