The NHL Thread, 2012/2013 season

Reversed. NHL Board of Governors proposed, NHLPA rejected. They rejected for a few reasons:
1. They felt like it was unfair that east divisions at 7 teams, while 8 in the west. And since 4 teams from each division face off in the first round, it would be easier for the east coast team to reach the playoffs.
2. NHLPA were not involved in the making of the realignment, and when they tried to give input, it was rejected. Basically a power move prior to CBA negotiations.

Aw yes, that's right; I now recall the Central Division GMs were really pressing for the realignment, especially since they would be a 7 team conference.

Expansion team in SD please... :teeth

...again :|

Not a snowball's chance in hell, especially given how Phoenix has faired over the last half decade. If anything, those two expansion teams will be Canadian. You could put money down that hockey will return to Quebec City, and the other being a toss up between Saskatoon, Halifax, or Hamilton.

I'm a fan of cutting 2 teams and making it an even 28. I just think there are some cities that just aren't big enough to support an NHL team.

Which teams would you cut, and what happens with the players on their rosters (and in their systems in the minors)?

Hard to say; there's pros and cons to any change you make. But I think markets like Anaheim, Columbus, Carolina, Florida (Miami), and Phoenix struggle to keep seats filled. Take current players and put them in a draft and/or UFA system and "evenly" distribute players. I don't think any of these teams have very strong farm systems anyway.

Edit:
I remember earlier this year, during one of the Texas Rangers playoff games, Stars had a home game vs the Coyotes. It was something like 6,xxx in attendance. I imagine it being depressing to play a game in a stadium that's 60% empty.

OK, got my new season tickets. Can you say upgrade?

Section 127
Row 25
Seat 7 & 8

The seats are on the last row with the brick wall behind the seats, so you can stand and not piss anyone off. Plus the aisle is not really wide, so there are only 4 seats on each side, yet we're in the middle so we won't have to get up every. And, the two seats next to us are another couple, who are down to sell their tickets to us and we'll see to them from time to time, to turn it in to a 4 pack. Lastly, they are right on the fucking goal line! I swear you can call the goals for the refs! :)

Anyway, going to be selling more this year, since they are a lot more.. If you're interested in any of the playoff games, let me know!

Drafted a Czech lefty center. What that means long term, I have no idea. :p

Am I missing something? J.Staal turns down a cool $60M/10year deal to stay with Pittsburgh? There's no way Jordan is worth 6M/year or a 10 year contract.

He held out so he could go UFA after the season to go play with his brother in Carolina. He's now traded to Carolina in exchange for Sutter, a first round pick, plus something else I can't quite remember. Sutter is solid, Pens got a great deal.

I laughed cuz the Sharks FB page posted a pic of the kid and people were flipping out cuz he had the #12 on. Uh, duh, its the 2012 draft and all the kids had the #12. :laughing

Some people are so dumb sometimes.

I had to think about that for a moment when I first saw it too. As soon as I saw a second guy with the same number, it dawned on me. :laughing

Yes, people are that fucking dumb.

Although Hertl was a good selection, I still would have preferred the speedy winger Teuvo Teravainen.
