I was just informed that there has been a llamacide in Oakland. I am deeply saddened by this news.

RIP poor Llama, I didnt know you, but I'm sure you brought great joy to those who had the opportunity to meet you.

OAKLAND -- Andrew Gordon has seen his share of pit bulls, stray cats, lost pythons and runaway dogs during his 31 years as an Oakland Animal Control officer. On Monday, he found himself with a unique mystery -- how did a dead Llama end up on a street in the middle of Oakland?
Gordon said animal control got call from a 911 dispatcher around 12:30 p.m. saying someone had reported a dead horse in the middle road in an 900 block of 89th Ave.
When he arrived on the scene, a small group of Oakland police officers and onlookers were gathered around the carcass. Each had their own theory about how the animal got there.
"It was wrapped in a canvas so it looked like a horse, but when I looked inside and saw its head, I knew it was a Llama," he said. "It was different (than his normal calls)…A dead llama down in an area surrounded by warehouses was a shock…We might only have a handful of llamas in the entire city."
Gordon believes that the 300-400 pound animal was actually killed or died elsewhere and was dumped in the sparsely populated area.
"It had to take several people to get it here," he said.
The body was loaded onto a tow truck and was being examined at the animal control headquarters. anyone with information was asked to call the Oakland Police non-emergency number.
