The only reason you need to not vote for Rick Perry....

He's polling about as well as Santorum right now. We can cease discussing his existence.

GOP candidates come out like a shot gun blast. Not very effective at hitting the target.

It is an open field.

Here's a reason to support him, though I don't at all. As Texas governor, he had to make the pragmatic decision of giving illegals access to the same financial aid for college as citizens. And he has consistently defended his decision based on the idea that bringing them into the "knowledge" fold, is better than leaving them in the dark. And yet he is called a real conservative candidate compared to Romney...

Like I said, I don't support him, in fact, he reminds me of the mad general that wants to take charge, a la Alex. Haig... But just sayin.

wow. He did the same thing as the Prez and any other politician. Stop the presses!

(won't be voting for the douche anyway though).

Seriously, isn't that par for the course for pretty much every politician on any side, ever?

They fail to recognize what I thought at one point were their collective core values.

Social SECURITY (not $ecurity) and the guard of political (or federal if you prefer) over reach. Pleze to dig one up from the grave for the sake of a decent debate.

Pleeze.

It's really simple for Republicans:

Option 1: In the primaries, elect a hard-core republican candidate like Rick Perry to run against Obama. While the hard-core republican crowd will vote for him, nobody else (as in swing voters, moderates, etc.) will. In this case they might as well start congratulating Obama on his victory now.

Option 2: In the primaries, elect a moderate candidate that might actually attract some voters from the other side of the spectrum, that are for one reason or another unhappy with Obama. In this case the republican party will have a shot at the white house. It's not like hard-core republican voters are going to vote for Obama just because they don't like a republican candidate being too moderate. A few of them will do so out of spite, but most will still vote republican. In this case only time will tell who will win the election, and I would not be making any predictions.

Obvious choice is Option 2.

Obvious to everyone but the RNC.

they could if they could see past their collective assholes.

past their assholes is dick, and Nixon is dead. Although if they dug him up I'd vote for him. which says sooo much about how the whole political process has devolved. Nixon was more of a liberal than obama...

There is enough truth in that statement for a debate all its own. Sounds like a good thread title. :laughing
