Beaten to death in church

Two brothers were beaten for several hours in an effort to get them to confess to prior sins and ask for forgiveness. One of them ded now. Oh, and it was mostly their family that did it.

"I'm really afraid. In my heart I don't think this is the first incident," said Eva Monaghan, who lives around the corner from the church. "Over all the years, I can't imagine this is the first thing. Maybe nothing as bad. Around town, it's considered a cult."

snitches get stiches :x

and the Jesus said "Thou shall confess to his sins and ask forgiveness, or I shall stump thy ass in to the ground. Amen"

That's got little to do with religion. That's a bunch of sadistic a-holes looking for a reason to swing fists.

Very interesting first two threads on BARF!

Like firearms, it's just a medium for shitty people to do shitty things. Express yourself, they said. Follow your heart, they said...

done fix-ed dat.
= some people's practice...

There's good and bad with every group. Crappy things usually happen when anyone takes anything too far.

It never ceases to amaze me, how many of the 'fire and brimstone' christian churches and sects cropped up around the US over the years, and yet this is a polar opposite of what Jesus supposedly preached and said.

I guess in these cases, 'BLIND faith' is more of what is required than simply 'faith', because it really doesn't add up.

Horrible analogy.
A gun is a object.
An object that enables a hunter to put food on the table, a soldier to defend himself and kill enemies, a bank robber to be taken more serious and a psychopath bent on targeted killing be more efficient.
A purpose built tool that enables efficiency for the task at hand.

A religion is an ideology that once adopted informs your reality.
Yes a good person can ignore the parts that can be used to justify evil.
But the wrong ideology can absolutely intensify, inflame and justify prejudice, hatred and fear.
Theres a reason nobody fears fundamentalist jainists or pacifists and have good reason to fear fundamentalist muslims or certain versions of christianity more than others.
Ideology maters. Religion makes a difference in how its adherence perceive reality and what is wrong or not, justified or not, The value of human life. Fear of the other and the value of the other.

Idiots will be idiots. They come in all shapes, sizes, political affiliations, religions, non-beliefs, colors, genders, ethnicities, ... You get the point.. and if you don't, you're an _____ :twofinger .

Holy shit, you are a peach. You're really going to go all literal on my comment and are unable to see the point? A rock, it just sits there and can be used to hold a door open, or smash someone's head in. An ideology, since we're not all born with it, it's just words on paper and can be used as motivation to feed people, or murder them. When you have a person, A, and you have a horrid act, C, well B is just a medium in the context of what A person uses to achieve C. That doesn't mean B isn't also made of metal, or looks like an apple, or tastes like cheetos, fack me. One of the worst things about religious people is the intensity of it, just see the article for example. I fear atheists with that same type of intensity (hint-hint), that's what's unhealthy, not what the 'thing' (object, or ideology) actually is.

I can see both of you are incapable or unwilling to understand the difference between a tool or an object and an ideology that informs ones reality.

People use objects to achieve goals. Ideology uses people to achieve goals.

I could explain in more detail, but I've learned that on barf people gloss over anything more than sound bites just looking for something to disagree on.

Ideology doesn't *do* anything, people *do* everything. Certainly Mr. Literal should be able to understand that concept. Hate when people dodge responsibility.

I'm firmly convinced that "ideology" isn't even real... can you even touch it ? has anyone ever proven it exists ?

Oh, I know that some people need to believe that ideology exists, and it gives them comfort, but I like the freedom of knowing that I control my own language :thumbup

Sure, the thing is, Religion is stuff people make up to justify their emotional state, because they are unable to use more rational thought to do so.

Fear your mortality? Invent a myth of the afterlife.

Fear people will do terrible shit? Invent a Hades / Hell / Magic Corrections System

Fear that your positive feels and thoughts are unappreciated and for naught? Invent a magic sky wizard that always gives a shit that you that is nice and rewards you somehow.
