The Rig, “Not a wheelchair” mobility device for the outdoors.

Looks like it's just a hub motor, so maybe $500 for motor/controller/electronics, another $500 for each battery. Wheels and shocks could easily be a couple hundred each. You're over three grand already and you haven't even started. I'm sure I could build one cheaper though, but he's priced it such that I'm not sure I'd want to try and that's often an important goal when manufacturing and marketing a product.

My ebike hub motor wheel kit was $120 with all the controls and a 25 mile battery pack was $150, add old mtb probably worth $30...

e-bikes are not a fair comparison because the sales volumes probably differ by an order of magnitude or three.

anyone that can build one, do it. then make sure to charge yourself $50-100/hr for your time too.

the price seem solid. if he starts selling 10k, maybe the cost will come down. its probably more likely someone in China will clone and sell it on Alibaba for half the price.

Exactly. I could make it with $1k margin, but it wouldn't be worth $1k to do it.

Very cool but that's not a bicycle it's an electric motorcycle :)

Pedal Options : None

Theres a pedal option in there somewhere, but i dont expect many people will check that box.

Byke! Ive not been to the Dirty forum lately, but ill have a look.

Bro... I don’t think you understand scale and market demand. A good regular ass wheelchair with no motor can cost several thousand dollars.

I think we can probably thank insurance companies for that price point.
This albatross will have to survive on its own in the open market....or not.

A high quality titanium bicycle frame can be four digits pretty easily. Most wheel chairs have to carry a person all day for years. Without insurance involved, they’d still be expensive. I’m not talking heavy hospital chairs, but ones an individual would own.

However anything accessibility related is usually buxxx. Point is, the price of this contraption doesn’t surprise me.
