Things to do around Sacramento

Its legal to serve alcohol in Sacramento these days.

Seriously, I don't know what you mean by a speak easy type bar.

And where is the race?

Maybe the fox and goose? :shrug we have a lot more pubs than speakeasies.

I know. Something with 1920 decor and vibe.

The Shady Lady on the R Street Corridor I mentioned earlier. Nationally noted for its cocktails I believe it has the feel you are looking for.

Delta King is a pretty upscale restaurant that is on the river (literally, you eat on a boat). Scotts Seafood is also very nice and upscale, next to the river south if downtown. Off of garden highway, there is Crawdads on the river. Less upscale, but still nice. It is also literally on the river.

All of these are in Midtown:

Mulvaney's: High quality, friendly, good service, dinner, lively: Pro tip: sit near/in the small bar area.

Waterboy: Fine dining

Yes Shady Lady Bar for 1920s vibe

B-Side Bar: 1960s-70s LP/HiFi feel. Near Shady Lady

DeVere's Irish Bar: with food (full bar, not just beer)

Blues music: Hit the Torch Club

A bit more casual food, with a euro/cycling/Italian feel: Hot Italian Pizza

I'll let you do the google fu on these.

Good luck on the race! My bum is still sore from the Sierra Century last weekend..

What about: Casablanca Moroccan Restaurant?
GF suggested it, apparently there is belly dancing also.

Sac blows. I lived there for two years and the American River bicycle trail kept me from hanging myself.
Go out to Folsom or El Dorado Hill, couple of nice restaurants out that way. Traffic on 50 might be ugly though.
But if you're just looking for something to do for an evening than the area around the train museum is an okay place to hang out.

Re: Casablanca

I know the place well. More of an experience than a dinner.

Great food, belly dancing on weekend nights only IIRC.

Located in a crappy little tiny strip mall next to a liquor store, more on that later, next to a gas station, check for parking in back.

There really is no menu. Just order the "Sultan's Feast".

No silverware.

Dining on low pillows/couches.

Not a quick meal.

No liquor license as due to owner religious beliefs. But...there is a liquor store right next door and it is customary to byob. Don't be a drunk, but enjoy your wine or beer.

I've had some great times/meals there, but it may not be for everyone. I'm more adventurous than picky and I like it a lot.

Good place for a group if you grab some of your fellow racers to join you.

The owner was pretty nice to us and actually put me in contact with his brother when we took a trip to Morocco. His brother put us up and showed us around for a couple days.

To sum up:thumbup

go up to the auburn hills and enjoy the various clean & beautiful rivers/creeks in the hot weather.

Thats the only thing I miss about the sac area. Crystal clear water from snow run off tucked away out of sight. Perfect scenery and nature. Spent many summer days up their with my gf at the time.

Empress Tavern-lower K Street-good food,cool vibe.
Check out the new basketball stadium during construction.
Poke Face-great eats, Japanese and healthy
Kru-J Street-better than Mikuni times one billion. Sit at counter and Billy Ng might be your sushi chef!
Crocker Museum

After event if you are feeling adventurous come out to West Sacramento and visit Jack Rabbit and Bike Dog breweries.

It's a growing cow town and if you are looking for some fun and relaxation it's all here.

Have you been to the "new" Sail Inn yet?

Have you been to the "new" Sail Inn yet?

I have not yet tried the new Sail Inn, but I will. I also like old school dive bars that have not been "renewed". I miss you Monte Carlo! but I'll drop by sometime.

The Round Corner on 24th and S is a real mellow comfortable old school bar that has not changed in decades.

and yes to Kru for sushi.

Like Melissa said, Sacramento is growing and there are plenty of places to dine/drink at all budget levels/ethnic-food styles.

Tons of fine breweries ("Device" is my favorite for quality).

I've heard the decor in Empress is nice and swanky, have not been yet.

White water rafting? Might be a bit cold though. I know you can get in at the lower parts and float in a tube with some beer.

Oh, and don't buy any street drugs (opioids)

What about the zoo? Has anyone ever been to that zoo? Or is Sacramento trolling people?

The zoo is great for a family day, It won't compare to larger city zoos, but I've always enjoyed it.

There is a smaller zoo, that is, in some ways more enjoyable, out in Folsom

You could also hit the Folsom Prison small museum same day.

The "Faces" suggestion was a troll (gay-mostly dance club) in an area with a lot of very gay friendly places. But I bet you'd have a fine time with a group there.

"new" Sail Inn-red headed step child of Shady Lady-yes. I live 5 blocks from the establishment. Let's meet for a mini West Sacto meet!

There are more breweries opening up out here and recent news states that the DUI rates have increased astronomically. Be safe and careful.

Auto Museum
R Street for some food and drinks
Mikunis for Sushi
Rivercats

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Looks like there are lots of options to choose from. :thumbup
