I commute everyday from SF to Redwood City and there are two distinct smells I get everyday.

One is great! When I get close to the IT's IT icecream sandwich plant the air fills up with the wonderful smell of chocolate chip cookies and it is MAGICAL!

The other is not so great. When I head home I pass by Hunter's Point on the 101 and to the left is a garbage dump. I have to hold my breath and twist the wrist so I don't puke into my helmet and then down all over me and the guy driving behind me!

What smells do you smell when riding?

Crossing the San Mateo bridge on my old commute, it used to smell like someone took a shit in my helmet.

On the 80/780 junction, there is an area with eucalyptus trees that I can usually smell when I ride by. :thumbup

a common stench on commutes home on 87 and 280-ganja.

Strong enough to pick up four car lengths back at speed.

At least two days a week.

Riding through Oklahoma we were behind a big trailer filled with HUGE pigs. The trailer had a grate floor and one of the pigs decided it had to piss. And boy did it piss!We quickly moved to the shoulder to avoid the hose-like spray.

I can't quite describe what it smelled like but it was horrible - like 4 week old dead babies mixed with Valgars jock strap. Unpleasant to say the least...

I LOVE IT's-IT.
So ooey-gooey. My favorite is the cappuccino ice cream sandwich. :drool
That smell would kill me if I had to ride by every day.

Brake pads. I used to notice that all the time on the way down Bear Creek Road (heading to Boulder Creek.)

Death. I smell dead things hidden in the brush on the side of the road. Old death.

Right as I come off the Bay Bridge into San Francisco in the early-to-mid afternoon, it smells like fancy wood smoke (cherry wood or apple wood). Makes me miss the days when I was a wine sales rep, and had to call on accounts like Il Fornaio and Stars.

I've been riding in the forest a lot lately so I smell pine and springs.

I used to pass a Hostest factory every day, and it smelled like heaven every morning

There are a couple of places that smell like roasting coffee. I don't know exactly where, but whenever I go by them I always go "mmmm".

I have never smelled the "goodness" at It's It. I'll pay more attention next time. Anyone ever notice how many cell towers they have mounted on the place?

Does anyone know where It's It were introduced, without looking it up?

Um....yea, it's the 'San Francisco' treat (unlike that nasty fake roni stuff). :p

More specific.
Hmmm, I'm gonna say 16th and Mission. It's-IT was actually started in the early 1930s as a 'gateway' drug (you know when heroin was hard to come by).
16th and Mission was beautiful, clean, an it prospered until It's It took over.
Now look at the place. :|

Not often enough:
