Hey guys, since the stock DRZ tank only holds 2.6 gal, i'm thinking about getting an aftermarket gas tank.. You guys have any input on which one i should get? Clarke, IMS, Acerbis? those are the three i'm looking at. It would be Clarke 3.9 gal, IMS 4 gal and Acerbis 4.25 gal. Pics and personal experience would be good. Thanks a bunch. :thumbup

I've had several each of IMS and Clarke tanks, although never for a DRZ. They have all worked well with no issues, but I think the fit and finish on the Clarke tanks is better. I've had to re-drill petcock holes on some IMS tanks, and sometimes they won't fit exactly right the way I'd like. They work and everything, just a bit more of a headache than any Clarke I've ever owned.

The Clarke fits the DRZ better than the IMS. I seem to remember that the Acerbis doesn't fit the S or SM models - something about the way the seat connects.

I've had both on my DR350S and I liked the Clark tank the best. Better fit and finish, and it was just a better made tank. :thumbup

I'm riding an XR rather than a DR-Z, but I have a Clarke tank on it and like it.

You need to decide if the extra 1/3 of a gallon would make a difference in choosing Acerbis over Clarke.

Sounds like Clarke is coming up on top!. I ran out of gas on my way to work, 93 miles, saw the light turn green, my bike moved forward then puhhhhpuhhh,, dead. I see a Clarke tank in my future, Thanks guys. Anyone got up close pictures of what it looks like on a bike?

Probably not, I think the clarke would get me 140-150 before i need to flip on reserve. That's far enough for me.

-High-side, that's an awesome picture, where was that at?

Im riding KTM 450 EXC with tiny 2.2G tank. I was tired of loosing 1G gas can that i strapped to the tail.I lucked out and found 3.2G IMS on craigslist for $100 perfect condition. 15 minutes to install used stock petcock. NO more gas worries. The IMS tank did not interfere at SM track or dirt riding when you gotta have your nutts on the tank. The profile of bike did not change. That 1 gallon of extra fuel makes a big difference if you ride up to the twisties where gas stations are few and far in between.

DRZ with the Clarke tank. Fits fine, works great as best I can tell. I like that you can see how much gas is left.

Clarke tank ftw

The Clarke tank was one of the first mods I did to both of my DRZ's. Here's a blue Clarke on my 07 S...

Check my album for some more pics...

Get the Clarke. Fits the best, and doesn't look too bad IMO. The only thing that is prone to fail is the gas cap seal. To fix that, just replace it with an XR650R gas cap. It's a direct fit and for all you nit pickers, no it is not labeled 'Honda' :)

The Clarke gas cap that came with my bike (used, already had the tank) was falling apart and dropping plastic bits into the inside. I purchased a new cap from Cycle Gear for a reasonable price. It works much better than the original.

The Cycle Gear cap came with a short hose, about two inches, with a check valve that lets air in but supposedly doesn't dump gas out when the bike is upside down. I replaced that with a longer clear tube that loops up and into the steering stem. That also makes it so that gas cap can't go anywhere when I'm filling the tank.

Good suggestion, just spend my last hour at work reading on TT (I work hard, I know). Clarke is probably the winner, no fitting needed, will take Stan's advice and order a new gas cap for it. Thanks for all the great info and pics guys. Cheers.:thumbup

It's like a $10 gas cap, but well worth it. Much much higher quality.

I'd post more pictures of my old custom metallic black DRZ, but I don't want to make anyone jealous. :)
