My work is 4 miles away and the commute is largely on the paved but somewhat bumpy iron horse trail. I used to long board around campus back in college religiously but that was some years ago.
My s5 gets an impressive 10mpg around town so spending $40 a week on gas with such a short commute seems ridiculous. I have a bicycle but was looking to get something different.
Would love to get back on a board and the boosted with the extended range battery of 14 miles seems great.
Curious if anyone has one - what their thoughts are and how they handle bumpier pavement / on/off sidewalk transitions.

Everyone was so happy you used a longboard for that. Especially the students who had to sit next to you. Stylin!![]()
LOL! Barfer has bad idea, everyone tells him a better idea.
LoL!! Barf so stupid. Why do you have to give bad advice?

I was looking at the one wheel - how do you like it? It's a bit pricier - but i do like that you can take it pretty much anywhere. Wasn't sure how easy it is to back on and off the "gas" vs. boosted board has a remote.

how about a folding bike? Also - I have a bicycle - they get stolen often (yes even with good kryptonite locks) around the area i have to park it - so i wanted something i could bring inside with me and not worry about it.
apparently I missed a law change and electric ones are now legal - it used to be that motorized skateboards were illegal period, but I guess they changed it a few years agoYeah i'm off on my math - net i'm getting 8-10mpg on the S5 if i'm lucky - my job is close where i shouldn't be using it much.
Thanks for the point about state law - will have to look into this further - i've seen some people on the iron horse trail using them - i've never seen the area patrolled but will have to read more on it.
21968.
(a) A motorized skateboard shall not be propelled on any sidewalk, roadway, or any other part of a highway or on any bikeway, bicycle path or trail, equestrian trail, or hiking or recreational trail.
(b) For purposes of this section, an electrically motorized board, as defined in Section 313.5, is not a motorized skateboard.
313.5.
An “electrically motorized board” is any wheeled device that has a floorboard designed to be stood upon when riding that is not greater than 60 inches deep and 18 inches wide, is designed to transport only one person, and has an electric propulsion system averaging less than 1,000 watts, the maximum speed of which, when powered solely by a propulsion system on a paved level surface, is no more than 20 miles per hour. The device may be designed to also be powered by human propulsion.
I enjoy riding the OneWheel, it is a bit harder to learn than a Boosted Board. I haven't been able to ride it much lately, as a result, I still suck at it... But I've ridden it on asphalt and on a grass field, so much fun, no need to worry about most obstacles that would stop a boosted board...
As for on/off "gas", it isn't that difficult, I like the fact that it doesn't have a remote, one less thing to worry about losing.![]()

Onewheel XR hands down
OneWheel XR:
19 mph top speed
12-18 mile range
2 hours to charge
$1,800
Looks cool, probably fun, pass for me. At least for now. They mentioned the new battery tech was based off of stuff "developed for the electric car industry". I'm wondering how much Tesla's patents are trickling down into this territory.
Also, the top speed is probably about as fast as I'd be comfortable going without wearing much gear anyway, so no particular beef with that, but the charge time vs range is what I'm sitting here scratching my head at. Twice as long to charge as you can go is what Tesla had to overcome with the model S.

not sure where you got 2 hours charge time from. I'm reading 40 minutes from fully depleted.
I'd like to ride my bicycle to work but there's a rather daunting hill smack dab in the middle of the 4 miles.
Need to talk myself into one of those electric assist bikes. I cannot pedal all the way up, either side.
But going down that hill on a skateboard sounds just stupid enough for me to try...
