When I'm not in full leathers and wearing my Sidi or Dainese boots, I wear either my old, issue jump boots or these Thorogood 8" moc/safety-toe boots. Compared to my 6" Red Wing 875s to which the Thorogoods look similar, the Thorogood are super comfortable right out of the box with your first steps, cost $100 less and are also Made in USA. The Red Wing 875s, in comparison, have a better look overall (color & finish) but take a few weeks to break in properly. While they are very comfortable now, break in period was fairly uncomfortable. I wanted more coverage so I opted for the taller 8" Thorogoods and am extremely satisfied. Although I do plan on getting a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers in the near future as another option for riding.

If you are looking for a more casual boot for when you're city riding or just taking it easy, like the look of Red Wing mocs, and appreciate American craftsmanship at a reasonable price, you should give these a try...

Thanks for the head's up. I am always looking for American made boots that are comfortable, durable, and good looking.

OP - Just an FYI, Army boots do NOT have ankle protection. I wear das boots (Bellevilles or Altamas) every day for work, but always change out to real moto boots when riding. :thumbup

I've got a pair of Army Herman Survivors, bought in 1985 that I still wear. But not while riding.
