Thoughts on SUV?

I have an 05 GC... I really like it. Ive had it for two years or so. My complaints are the interior seems a bit cheap...I have a few ac vents that are broken and also the center console seems to be very noisy. Probably needs to have the bolts tighted and would be better.

The only mechanical issue I have had is that it appears one of my header bolts has broken off, or there is a small exhaust leak from the y-pipe/cat connection.

Overall Im happy, its seen dirt and handle it fine. Wish the gas mileage was better.

Hmmm..

Might be just the right package for the wifey..

I don't want to sound sexist or anything, but it is a good "wife" vehicle. Though I do have plenty of customers that are men too. It's super easy to drive, powerful, gets decent mileage, has enough premium materials to not look cheap, and is very reliable from what I've seen so far.

2015 is just fine, but if you can hang on for a couple months the 2016 comes with our new "Jewel Eye" multi LED headlights, the usual mid cycle bumper refresh, and a new infotainment setup.

What SUV would you get - 2015 under $40k

Infiniti QX50?

We have one - never owned a better car. I guess it's somewhere between a station wagon and a real "SUV" but it gets great fuel economy, handles like a sporty car, over 300hp, great luxury, and incredibly reliable. It's almost at 100K miles and the only thing that's ever been fixed on the car is a mysterious radiator leak.

Right at the budget, but it's the Acura RDX. And not because I work for Acura either. It's that good.

I test drove the RDX and it seemed a bit underpowered and the fuel economy seemed pretty crappy too... Also, it's FWD-biased which is lame. :thumbdown

It felt like it had a bit more room than the Infiniti in the back, otherwise not a huge fan, although I'm sure they are reliable. The Infiniti was cheaper anyways so we got that, I drive it like once or twice a month but my wife loves it.

I still prefer my 2007 4Runner with 100k on the clock to the new Jeeps I get as rentals.

I'd buy another 4Runner. :dunno

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I am more anti-Jeep than anti 4Runner. I just think that there is something out there that may fit the wishes of all the older 4Runner owners because their car is no longer what it once was. I'm sure its still a better car in terms of reliability. Workmate has a Pilot. It seems good, but I have always felt that Honda cars are just a bit less sturdy in their body panels, parts, etc than Toyotas.

The other thing is that you are lured into thinking you have a car, when really, the 4Runner remains a truck. It's an obvious difference from my old Highlander, which really was what happened when they stopped making Camry wagons. When my wagon got stolen, I just wanted another wagon. But they stopped making them.

I like the SRT8 Cherokee.

I don't care if it's a POS or whatever.

After 27 years of nothing but Toyota 4Runners I'm happy happy happy with my 2014 Ford Explorer.

Did the costco thing and the experience was so smooth and hassle free it was actually boring :laughing Never in my wildest dreams did expect such an experience buying a vehicle.

Body on frame is precisely why I bought a 4Runner. I'm glad it still remains an option. There are plenty of unibody SUVs and crossovers these days that I am glad I can still buy an SUV that drives like a truck.

Agree with others that I'd steer clear of the Jeeps. I did not like the RDX when I test drove it in 2013; thought it was overpriced relative to what it offered.

Forerunners are great, but the new ones like like ass. Toyota really screwed up on the latest design.

How about the new Audi Allroad? Probably push you into the 40's, but it's a pretty nice car.

3 rows of seating has her turned off

but her friend loves hers

maybe I can talk her into a test drive

one of the concerns is lifting a baby seat into the rear, she's 5'6" so it helps some.

The Jeep Overland had the electronic lowering suspension in Park so it was a non-issue

I have a shark in my pocket if I need to go into a price battle, but I want easy peasy and Costco sounds like the way to go.

Know what the best car for getting kids in and out of? A minivan, low to the ground and doors that slide open.

You can rationalize that you are cooler and different in every single way, but in the end, a minivan is the most practical family mobile :|

you pluralized kid, which will never happen in my household - I'm already scheduling my vasectomy for next year, pending insurance approval.

she refuses to own a mom van

Msrp? If you pay more than invoice you're doing it wrong.

:thumbup
