anyone know on average how much power they draw? i'm looking at the ones from hisideracing, and i need to pick a generator to power them.
 
Chickenhawk's state that they draw 600 watts each, ~1200 per bike. We've been running up to three sets off of a 3000 watt Honda generator, which is over that, but seems it to work out fine.
 
I'm running Tyr Sox (for now) and they draw about 1100-1200 watts.

If you're thinking of getting Tyr Sox I'd certainly recommend rethinking your decision. I mean, they heat up the tires OK, but they're just not easy to get on and off. I'm buying a set of Chickenhawks (or that other Australian brand I can't think of its name right now) for next season because they're SO mush easier to get on and off. I certainly think the whole convenience factor is worth another $100. When they're on last call for your race you don't want to be screwing around trying to get multiple layers of warmer off your tires

Lastly, consider getting one of those Honda generators that are whisper quiet. I have a Coleman generator which is loud as crap.

Not to changes the subject, but how much do the tire warmers actually help? You racers do a warm up lap anyways, no? What temps do they run??

They help alot. As a matter of fact, I'd rather have them then anything!

The warmup lap really I use to clear the motor, warm the brake pads up and that's really it. Tire warmers allow me to make up the bulk of my spots on the first lap.

Best thing ever! They also help in tire cool down.
 
thanks all. seems like they all draw ~1200 per bike. i'm going to get the honda eu2000i.

Wow, yes, they help a LOT!
Gives you the confidence and traction to blast into the first few turns when warmerless people are still pussyfooting around. Means the warmup lap can be used for getting your head into it, warming up the engine, brakes, etc. It's a far more zen-like experience than frantically flinging your bike into the turns trying to warm up the tires.

It also helps tire life. Tires react better to slow warmup and slow cooldown. Tire warmers give the tires that slow warmup period and if you put them on immediately when you come off the track (even if you don't turn them on) it helps with slowing down the cooldown. That's my gripe with Tyr Sox. They're such a pain to get on and off that I don't use them between sessions like I really should. Wouldn't have that problem with one of the other brands.
 
Speaking of tire warmers, KLS is having a end of the season sale. A lot of people think these are best warmers on the face of the planet and they are priced that way too. But if you gotta have the best but you are looking for a deal, now's the time to buy 'em.

Chicken Hawk are real good warmers for $400 a set. Well worth the price of tires.
 
I bought a set of Colt Bandits. A bunch of my buddies use them and I noticed a set keeping Nicky's tires toasty. I figure if they're good enough for Nicky's RC, they're good enough for me.

I was skeptical about the benefits of tire warmers and only bought them a few races ago. But now I won't leave home without them.
 
Even on an allready HOT day dem Warmers are worth more than their weight in the proverbial GOLD!!!

I have a set of The Bandit ones and they are really easy to use and have a thermostat built in.........:)

Besides the instant ability to go out and not worry about tires being up to temp.......(which is the BIG plus) or not, they minimize the severity of the heat cycling that really is the determining factor in tire life not tread depth when it comes to track ridin'.
I have a Honda EU1000 to run mine and it works just fine.......
More wattage is a good thang though...........
When you're runnin' that PS2 etc.........

Gotta Have equipment for the even halfway serious track rider!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
