Arai Corsair has been my go-to helmet for many moons. The born on date on my current one is up. Anyone have a bead on a good price for plane Jane (L white) one? Price appears to vary not at all from what I've see (700 buck range).

Alternately, anyone (corsair-shaped noggin peeps) gone from Corsair to _________ and never looked back?

I will prob just eat the 700 but thought I'd ask...

I've only worn Arai's until last month. At MGP, I tried on a Shark Race R Pro and was so impressed.....I bought it! It's extremely light, vents very well (wore it last week in 107 degree heat) and is quiet. Only issue is that its so new here, parts are hard to find, e.g. dark visor & cheek pads.

I just got a Signet-Q, I think that's what it's called, and it's bitchin'. Haven't tried on or owned the Crosair. But doesn't seem like you can wrong with Arai. However, for fitiment, this is why I go with local shops. Makes it easier for me, even if the cycle gear staff annoys me more often than not.

Been waiting for this thread....

I've used nothing but Arai for the last 20+ years, nothing but the top end, racer replica Arai models. I started getting irritated with the broken parts and difficulty changing visors, removing internal pads, etc.. And the price just kept going up. No matter how many nice helmets were out there, Arai just kept on raising prices. $800+ for a helmet?!

So I just bought an HJC RPHA-10, it's tits. Better than my RX7 Corsair V in every way, IMHO, and it was only about $350 new.

BTW, Arai RX7 Corsair V Hopkins/Monster for sale, size med. Mint cond. PM me.

You should buy it. It's an Arai, they're the best you know.

arai corsair was the only helmet that fit my head, until i tried a nexx X1R1-lightest,quietest,with best vision-doesn't come down over forehead while in a tuck-i have ever used-shield changes are a pita, but with a light smoke shield i can use day or night.finish is nice and it comes with extra pads so you custom fit it.i like this helmet so much i don't use my arai at all anymore.

Great info from some former Corsair junkies. Thanks guys. Looks like I have a few other models to check out. Definitely helped. :thumbup

Every fivish years when I get a new helmet I go through the process of checking out all the brands, trying them on, etc., and I keep coming back to Arai. Just went through it all again about 6 months ago and wound up with a new RX-Q, about 6 bills from Helmet City. Fantastic helmet. Came close to switching to a Suomy once, but couldn't get used to how close the chin bar and shield were to my face; felt claustraphobic to me. Nice helmet though and very light.

I love Arai's, I have about five in the garage. Only complaint is changing face shields, but other than that, great helmet.

My HJC RPHA-10 is super easy to R&R the visor, I switch them daily. Super easy to remove interior parts for washing as well, replacement parts are half of what Arai charges and better quality all around than any of my Arai's that cost more than double.

I'm getting an HJC RPHA-X for dirt. Done with Arai.

I have been wearing Arai Corsairs since they came out.

I have a Shark R Racer Pro Kimbo and it is by far my BEST helmet!

Arai lids are nice..had a few over the years. However the exorbitant cost and the PITA side pod design is a deal breaker for me. :thumbdown

This^ x1000

I have a corsair and quantum and the side pod holders are always breaking. I'll never buy another arai unless they do away with the side pod design.
Y latest helmet is an ICON battlescar variant sumo helmet and it's so much better than the arai it's not even funny. Had it up to 145 indicated with almost no visor pull. They did a great job with the venting and the veiw through the face shield is distortion and fog free.

I've worn Arai's for 20 years and I've never broken a side pod or had any trouble changing a shield. I don't understand why there's so much hand wringing over this issue. It takes a little finesse, and understanding of how the Arai shield system works, but it's no big deal to swap out shields.

That's great that you have it figured out. For the rest of us it's a pita

If it still fits well and isn't too grody why stop using your current helmet?

I had always used Arai's up until a couple years ago, I went from the RX7-RR4, RX-7 Corsair and the Arai Corsair V. They changed something with the Corsair V, my chin would sometimes touch the helmet. That was very annoying to me. This prompted me to shop around. I tried on an AGV GP-Tech and I never looked back. Great ventilation, comfort, somewhat quieter than Arai and it is lightweight. Now that I think about it, I got some good money back for the Arai on CL since it wasn't used much.
