Too Big for a Miata - What Are Some Good Options?

FFS.

Miata + $240, 4 bolts, 5 mins, done.

yeah that caught my eye too. I'd heard about shops that do this.

I notice that even the description says if you are above a certain waste size you need the wider version of the seat. and I didn''t see any dimensions for the outside witch of the seat. makes me wonder how much room there is in the hole it is meant to be put in.

yeah I would have bought a Miata years ago if I thought could fit in one.

Interesting.. can you find a mod that makes the car like an innertube that fly fishers wear ? You know, Kurt just steps into the car, pulls it up to his waist, then sits down ?

Of all the cars shown, I think the BMW 3 series convertible would be the closest to accomplishing the wifes vision of "cool" and still be fun for Kurt to drive.

That's what I'm talkin' about!!! :banana

Have I mentioned that we are selling our 1994 XJS convertible? ;)

When I came out of the office today, one of these was going by and it was boneriffic. Probably too tall for it too. :(

alfa%201750%20gtv.jpg

Had one of those and drove it daily from '77 to '84. Alfa GTV2000,Most excellent car.
Have not been very enthused about any new cars available up to now.

(first post on BARF. I've been lurking up in Seattle since '08 and this got me to sign up. Hi :shocker )

Test drive a Scooby BRZ or Scion FR-S. Haven't seen those suggested yet.
Almost identical handling to the Alfa and I couldn't resist.
You should be able to fit fine. Tilt the seat back and adjust the wheel. Try it. You'll like it.

Whizzed past SF last April down the coast and back, test driving some of your local roads.

West Coast trip WA - CA

Local forum is PNWRiders and I'm going to ride the Kbrick up to Port Townsend tomorrow for the kinetic sculpture races :ride

:newbie You'll love it here!!! :banana

Cool car! Outside my price range, but they sure are neat.

Have fun at the Kinetic Sculpture races. I've been to the one in Arcata-Eureka-Ferndale many times since it's a great excuse to ride Hwy 36! :ride

Go drive one anyway. G'waaaaannn. The first one is free.
I was shopping the same sort of market before, but I just couldn't do it.
Not what I really wanted.

Probably because short of finding one that got burned to a crisp in a fire, you're not getting one of those anywhere near the OP's $10k budget.

I'm totally visualizing the Hun in the XJS

i cannot beleive..after all this time...money has not been saved for the purchase of a C5 vette. honestly, i am dissapointed. te best that america had to offer in the late 90,s and early 2000's and its not a consideration. i got mine for 13k. it had a little abuse, but you know, that was ok. a car that does everything and does it well. *shakes head* i suppose most of you dont know. what a pity it is. one day you may see through the veil of the stereotypes and find on the other side, the best sports car your money could have bought. but it will be too late. you will have bought a compromise. pity the fool.

Not a consideration, because...again, I believe the goal for this is to stay under $10k. If his budget was more , I'd have hit him up to buy my C5 on the first page.

You are late to the party. Post #36:

Kurt, how about a 350Z?

Too soon?

If you can get past the stigma of owning a Corvette, consider a C5 convertible or coupe (removable roof). They get really good mileage, hold more luggage than you think, have nice power, and are much cheaper to insure than damn near everything else in their class.

I apparently should have bought the Corbeau A4 'wide' because I'm a bit of a chubster these days, but I fit in the 'small' ones just fine.

And the linked seat is what my mate Hank has, and he's 6'3, not skinny. I fit in his seat fine. I literally can't reach the pedals (I'm 5'11). The stock seats ARE pretty small, but they have a LOT of foam in the base that uses up headroom.

And you don't need a shop to fit the seat - it's literally 4 bolts and you're done.

Back on topic with the rest of the thread, something to bear in mind with a 'Vette/the Z cars - compared to the Miata, they'll EAT tires and brake pads at a vast rate in comparison, and the cost to replace is way, way higher.

That said, the 350Z I drove at Thunderhill did feel like an overgrown Miata, with torque... was a lot of fun, can't say it wasn't. But it didn't have the lively, instantaneous feel of my car, even before I did the mods.

Ah, missed that part. I was getting nostalgic about the GTV.
Finding one of those in good condition currently would run about $30k.
All Alfas rust just showing them a moist towelette. Mine had it in all four quarters and the door handles.

An S2000 in that range will be a bucket of severely worn parts. Examples in good nick are only now dipping down to the price of new FR-S levels.
That and the Miata are what the 86 is being compared with most. "Why didn't you get an S2k?" Because it would be 10 years old and worn out. Dur.

Maybe a JCW Mini or a VW GTi. That's all else I can think of as having been a little interesting in the last 20 years.

The crispy FR-S was a singular case of an e85 conversion gone horribly wrong. :x
Friends don't let friends convert to e85.
