A toll will take place, in addition to the Bay Bridge toll, for drivers going to Treasure Island. Wow.

"Drivers will be charged in both directions, entering and leaving the island. On weekdays the toll will be $3.50 during peak hours and $2 off-peak. On weekends the price will drop to $1 during peak hours and free during off-peak. To compensate for the toll already paid by drivers coming from Oakland, trips to Treasure Island from Oakland only will be discounted by half.

Toll collection will be automated using FastPass and license plate scanners, with no toll booths. Drivers without FastPass will be charged an extra $1."

This is essentially no change for people coming from Oakland, right? Charge for TI + discount for bridge = wash.

For people from SF, you now don't get to drive halfway across the bridge and back for free, you have to pay some toll that is roughly equal to half a bridge crossing.

Seems reasonable...

With numerous new housing developments already under construction, the island’s population is expected to increase in the coming decades from less than two thousand people today to an estimated 25,000 residents by 2035.

Oh, cool, only a 1,150% increase? That should work out really well for everyone.

I think you missed that the TI toll is both ways. So a wash when you enter, but another $3.50 when you leave. $7 for a trip from the SF side.

Settle back in your seat.
You're about to start seeing electronically collected tolls for things like crossing through SoMA during rush hour, parking in popular areas at peak hours, and using a plated vehicle in every NIMBY neighborhood or town that simply wishes that it would be quieter.

The days of assuming you're free to drive anywhere you want for free, are gonna be memories you tell your kids about.

Hey. Gubenment needs more money to throw around. Hope some goes to island improvements.

That sucks for Moto Guild SF which is on the island. I guess the good news is MG has a little over two years to move again. I will reiterate my request the last time they moved from SF to TI: Move to San Mateo somewhere around the SM Bridge, near SM Caltrain. They can draw from SF, SSF, East Bay and the Peninsula.

There will be a point, sooner or later, where someone will flip and shoot all these cameras.

Or hack!
How many elected officials need to have their entry/exit matching exactly the entry/exit of notorious Madam's, before nobody believes their claim of innocence ...

Sorry, I've been watching too many cold war movies lately.

Has anyone been there lately?
The place has become an absolute dump.
Other than going to MG there is no reason to go there.
Reminds me of going to Sears Point during an event, and having to pay that events admission fee to go to your friends shop.

Have you been to Mersea?
Ride there, have a good meal, look out over the bay, with the city in the backdrop.
Sure, it is underutilized real estate, but I don't think adding a toll is improving the development of the island.

Fair point of Sears point.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there low income housing over there?

There is. Perhaps TI residents and people employed there will get some sort of exemption. Pretty effing ridiculous if residents must pay same rates, or at all, simply to come and go, no?

The website says "many" homes will be below-market rate, and "Subsidized transit passes and discounts to services like car and bike share will make transit affordable and accessible to longtime residents and people living in below market rate housing."

These funds need to come from somewhere, and politicians love a new revenue stream like a meth addict loves meth.

So its would seem that the plan is to encourage all the poor people to move out to a cold windy island in the middle of the Bay. What could possibly go wrong with that?

Wait! Said by a Brit, that is hilarious :rofl

I mean cold, wet, island, as it is a bad thing ...

Is normal bridge toll going up as well? Seems odd that it'll cost more to go from TI to SF and back vs Oakland to SF and back.
