Treasure Island toll starting in 2021

Wait! Said by a Brit, that is hilarious :rofl

I mean cold, wet, island, as it is a bad thing ...

/Soren

Why do you think I came here and am an American now? :laughing

Besides nowhere in the UK is as bone chillingly cold as a foggy summer day in San Fran :x

Settle back in your seat.
You're about to start seeing electronically collected tolls for things like crossing through SoMA during rush hour, parking in popular areas at peak hours, and using a plated vehicle in every NIMBY neighborhood or town that simply wishes that it would be quieter.

The days of assuming you're free to drive anywhere you want for free, are gonna be memories you tell your kids about.

I'm all for user fees if general taxes are reduced in kind...

It looks like that's exactly the plan...
..
The money they raise will be used to help subsidize a new ferry service linking the island to the San Francisco Ferry Building and new AC Transit bus lines connecting Treasure Island to downtown Oakland, which is expected to cost roughly $6 million each year to operate

Am I the only one who thinks this is fair? It cost people on the east bay side of the bridge full toll to go to TI, now its half, and folk now on the SF side can go there for free but will soon have to pay their fair share. Am I crazy?

Has anyone been there lately?
The place has become an absolute dump.
Other than going to MG there is no reason to go there.
Reminds me of going to Sears Point during an event, and having to pay that events admission fee to go to your friends shop.

What about the 23,000 people that are expected to move there by 2035 following housing development that is already underway. Do you not think they will have a reason to go there?

I don't see anything indicating that you'll get a discount going from Oaklamd to TI.

If you decide to stop by on your way to SF I bet you pay $6 + $3.50 + $3.50

To compensate for the toll already paid by drivers coming from Oakland, trips to Treasure Island from Oakland only will be discounted by half.

I'm starting to think most people commenting didn't actually read the article.

Electric Motorcycles are silent and invisible and magic

It's gotta be one hell of a toll system!

"The toll system will cost $10 million to build, half of which will be covered by a federal grant."

$10 million. Seems like a lot.

Well, if the goal is to reduce traffic congestion, asking people to pay for the privilege of clogging up the roads has been proven far more effective than just building more capacity.

Have you driven or ridden 580 during commute hours? :wtf
Hell, even 680 NB from San Ramon to Walnut Creek...
(Pleasanton/Dublin/Livermore)

More effective? Maybe for the people that can afford it.
It's not effective for the folks that make min wage.

My response was based on SoMA traffic, and other clogged neighborhoods. The only hope to reduce traffic on 680 or 580 is to develop more mass transit like BART or something similar. Either that, or make those communities able to be more densely populated, so that you don't need a car to run errands all day.

Don't hate, gotta pay for high speed rail some how.

I'm just wondering when will the tax paying California residents get tired of being nickel and dimed to death. Lower income taxes for middle class, but get it back and more everywhere else.

With all that money you'd think they could maintain their roads :(

That would be bad for the environment. No more open space for the foxes, coyotes and deer.

Treasure island is a mess
I have a workshop on the island my landlord said we have about 2 years left before they knock it down and I have to find somewhere else to make noise
