Trolling and Debating. What's the Difference?

You get it! But you can't be taken seriously until learning "your" and "you're." Because let's face it, the 3rd grade wasn't all that difficult...

WAIT DID I JUST GET GRAMMAR-TROLLED? :laughing

Counter Android worship with Apple worship and you're a troll :laughing

No, the LEO Forum is the place where people who hate cops go to cops to ask for advice on how to get out of trouble for something they do in front of the cops. Then when they get told they're fucked, they go back to hating cops.

The Political Forum is where people hate everybody.

I lol'd

That's bs, I asked one issue in the LEO forum, which wasn't even a moving violation .It was a peculiar parking issue, how to fight a tow. I got condescended upon and given no advice. I'm not going round like tons of other posters hating on cops at all. But I got no advice.
Yet the LEO forum explicitly says "asks the experts in law enforcement. ' Well I did, thank you. But I noticed that threads where new cars are discussed or whether the chief will ever roll code 4 in his modded crown Vic get way more traction.

Try to look at the broader spectrum, bud.

*EDIT*. I found the thread where you posted about a ticket you received and subsequent tow. In 2008.

1) You didn't follow the rules and post the violation on the citation you received.
2) You didn't post the authority for why the vehicle was towed (it's a vehicle code violation number).
3) You didn't explain what happened.
4) Five years later you still are upset that you didn't get advice.

No one knows the answer to your question because you didn't post anything about the citation, event, or violation!

Sorry bud....

Thanks all for the input. Noted and understood. Call me a troll all you want, but I'm on BARF to meet people and have a good time reading others ideas.

I can't say I know any of your arguments, but I will talk about my experience with trolling.

I am an Obama supporter. I remember meeting a tea partier in 2008, and she mentioned with a certain paranoia about Obama's association with Samantha Power.

I never heard the name, so there wasn't much to say and the discussion ended.

Later I googled her and she has an Ivy League pedigree and eventually served on the National Security Council. She had made an off-the-record comment about Hillary during the primary, calling her a monster, and she resigned from Obama's campaign.

So what was the Tea Partier's point about Power? Was it to educate me about Obama's associates? Or to use a rhetorical technique to win the argument by bringing up an irrelevant fact that there was no way I would know?

That is what I consider trolling: not to offer opinions then the facts which it is based upon, but to win arguments any way possible.

Hello OP,
my guess is that you would like to be liked while simultaneously be taken seriously. If you are looking for validation while presenting as an authentic person then this mc Board is going to create some pain for you.

If you have come to BARF in order to meet, greet and ride the fuck outta your bike then take no one seriously, especially yourself. I have found that when others accuse you of being a troll or of trolling it is because that person just don't give a fuck akin to the honey badger.

Lighten up, know your audience and revel in the fact that others care about you here.

Trolling is saying stuff with the sole purpose of starting a frenzy. People may omit information because they want to see what people infer, they want to see the way someone fills in the blanks, etc. People also have a thousand words, or experiences, in their mind, and they can really only type a super consolidated version of it. I think the vast majority of what people call trolling is really just miscommunication, or sensitivity to differing opinions.

Of course you're going to find it, it's a searchable forum.
What's the point of number Four? I still know it's probably a similar forum which doesn't help. Why remember? Well I think my issue was one of the few ones where it wasn't performed in front of a cop, so it wasn't offending anybody to begin with. I think I could have gotten safe help. But no...

I don't think the rules were the same in 2008, bud... Think about it. Even the 'don't offend cops' rule wasn't even there (but it should be self explanatory)

It wasn't a VC violation number I think, probably a city code.

And I probably explained full well what happened, without saying where.. But anyway. You're just listing some excuses when you know full well the 'authority' was DPT..

But you do get worse posters, I agree..

debating is trying to find out what another thinks on a given topic.
trolling is trying to eleict a repsonse that you can jump on and call the poster dumb and/or evil.

I think that trolling comes in many forms, for instance; using broad negative or positive stereotypes to elicit a defensive response, relentlessly pursuing a hidden agenda, stating your opinion (on a debatable subject) as fact, etc..

Other than this one, the only two other threads you started that I could find were " The debate about gear rages on" and "Can/Should a CAR initiate lane sharing?"

In the first thread it took till post #17 before someone started their post with "what a load of crap" directed right at you. A true troll would have been pleased but you seemed taken aback.

In the second thread everyone was pretty reasonable in their responses and no personal attacks ensued; a true troll would have been pissed at the lack of drama.

So, it seems, you are not a troll...or just not a very good one! :laughing

There's a difference between wanting to debate some things and wanting to debate everything. Somewhere in there people start to think that you don't just like an argument, but that you're argumentative (aka troll).

Holy cow. I've heard some awesome responses. I can't believe no one has trolled this thread yet and incited a full on internet fight...*patiently bracing for it*

But seriously, things make a bit more sense based on the collective knowledge offered thus far.

Debating is showing love and support for your beliefs in a way that could convince others.

Trolling is winning, no matter the cost, that is if you even believe in what you're saying at all.

There is a difference, however, I believe the TOS should solely fall inline with 'it's not what you know, it's what you can prove' which is impossible for trolling. It should be removed from the TOS.

but Piney, this describes everyone and all things in the world.
Why you so harsh?

Observation and explanation - Seeing the Forum is based in the Liberal Bay Area. An area where constant leftist propaganda can thrive.

A Troll is anyone that questions or objects the indoctrination.
A Debate is the collective mass mentality reinforcing their truth as they see it.

The place is a loss loss situation.

This is a good example of trolling.

He makes a fairly general statement, then uses a word like indoctrination.

Personally, I find BARF to be moderate. There are some fairly conservative viewpoints here. I enjoy the debate though.
