Trouble with clutch

I think my clutch cable is stuck or it might be the clutch plates.

When I start to take off and even as Im riding the bike accelerates very slowly as if the clutch is being held in, and my hand is completely off the clutch. If I try to pull on the throttle the rpms just go up and the bike barely accelerates at all. I screwed the tightener for the clutch line on the handlebars to see if that may have been it but it isn't. It helped a little bit though as compared to when the problem first started but I still accelerate slowly.

I use my bike as a commuter so I'm trying to get this handled asap. Is this a quickfix I can do by myself that doesn't require me having to take apart the whole bike or is it a job that I have to take it into the shop for?

There are typically 2-3 adjustments. Is there slack at the clutch lever on the handlebar ( can you move it in a bit and see that there is slight slack in the cable, or is it tight)?

There is another adjuster at the other end of the cable, but if you have slack you won't need that one. Some motors have a third adjuster.

In short, get a manual and read about how to adjust a clutch on your particular bike. It sounds like a tight cable with no slack, or your clutch is just shot. Do a lot of clutch up wheelies?

If the cable is too tight, no slack, get some slack in it, so that you can move the clutch lever maybe 1/4" to 1/2" without it pulling on the cable.

You may need to pull the cover and replace your clutch pack. Get a manual.

Thanks for the tip I found out it had to do with the clutch lever down in the middle of the bike rather than at the handlebars and was able to tighten and fix the problem. From now on I'll remember when in doubt, consult the manual
 
cables that go out of adjustment on their own may be forwarning you of other nasty suprises, so keep an eye on things.
cables are wear items so replace as neccessary.
