What can ya'll tell me about them? Anyone have any experience with either for trail riding? I know the TX has a closer range gear box but from everything I read it's setup as a dual purpose race bike but is trail friendly where as the TE is specifically trail riding bike. Also...it seems there is a bit less suspension travel on the TX but still equitable to that of the 450 I'm currently on.

I don't plan to race but like the AER fork and lack of electronics (see headlight, speedometer) on the TX. Would the close(r) range gear box be okay for the trails or would it be shifting all the time? The top speed of the TX is fine too as I'm never pushing 45-50 even on the most open connecting fire roads. Also, 10 pounds lighter is enticing as well!

Considering a new 2T in April as a birthday gift. :party I got the 2T fever after riding a buddies KTM XC-W 300. (Thanks Paul!!!) I prefer the linkage rear though so want to stick with the Husky variant.

*kicks self* why didn't I get a 2T sooner is beyond me! It's a super fun cheater bike in the woods!

I would not want any close ratio for trail riding. They belong on an mx track.

Lights are great to have as you never know what can happen on a trail.
AER fork is great and about makes up a good chunk of the weight difference between the two.
You can find a mint AER on ebay and sell the Xplor for about the same amount($1600) and it could be a wash.

X variants are the equivalent of the XC and E variants are the equivalent of the XCW. I think.

Friend had an FX and it was a lot stiffer than my FE. Not quite apples to apples as it’s 4 stroke but maybe a similar parallel with 2T. All the reviews say the X is for open desert racing rather than singletrack but a lot of folks ride XC’s on trail.

That being said you ride faster than me so maybe stiffer works better for you.

I have a bike with a headlight. I know how useless they are. I'd rather ride by moonlight at that point. Generally I do day rides/trails and am never TOO far from base camp. That's what a riding buddy is great for!

It seemed the TX was not as stiff as most M/X bikes are and could be adjusted to soften the impact and make it compliant on the trails.

The TX is a semi-close gear box. The bike isn't a complete M/X bike...kind of a dual purpose bike which is why I'm inquiring about it. I haven't ridden a bike with a semi-close ratio box so I can't comment on how that impacts cruising down trails. It's a wide range power band so I wonder how this all plays out on the trail.

I wouldn’t know, I’ve never made it out of 4th in trail riding :p

I stand corrected: the TX is considered a wide ratio 6sp trans.

I will be looking for one of these in the spring. Can't wait!

I can't speak on those 2 models since I haven't tried them. But I do own a 2016 tc250 and absolutely love it. I can lug the crap out of it on rocky goaty trails and it will never die on my. Has plenty of down low grunt with the wmf gnarly on it too. Buy a 2stroke and you won't regret it. My next one will be electric start even tho I can start it sitting down.

2 stroke fever is real!

I’ll be looking for the XC. Everything I have watched and read points it to be the right bike for me.

If anyone has one they would let me take a short spin on....:)

As I told you, you're welcome to try the Beta.

If you plan on riding gnarly, slow stuff, just get an XC-W or the husky equivalent. Otherwise you'll be re-gearing and setting it up for trails when you can have to ready to go from the factory.

Just my .02
