why is it 'pointless' to remind people to treat other people with the same fairness and objectivity they would like to see given themselves?

if you truly understand the analogy i was making then i don't believe you'd find the reminder pointless.

and that's ALL that it was - a reminder. if you don't like someone telling you what to do/think then come out and tell me to not tell you what to do/think. but saying that reminding people to be good and fair doesn't belong here just 'cause it's the KS just seems shallow. the KS is for non-moto related gossip. nothin' says it can't be serious.

and FYI to anyone who doesn't understand the UCMJ: These Marines are probably FUCKED now, regardless of their innocence or guilt. Article 132 Non-Judicial Punishment is likely in store for them even if the full video tape proves the dog was dead and that they had the tape stolen and it was edited and posted by some radical CODE PINK person just to make them look like assholes. Shit... if they were just CGI'd in there their chain of command would probably still find them at fault. hehehe. That's the nature of the beast.

this video tape is international, already. and the USMC will have someone punished, publicly, to show they've done something about the 'problem' and don't condone those actions. It's no longer about right and wrong for them or the boys. it's about public relations with the world.

i feel sorry for them if they are FUCKTARDS who torture animals. and i feel sorry for them if they aren't.

What the hell are you talking about? Since Mike posts up pictures (which are awesome btw) to show that not all Marines are fucking idiots, it gives you the okay to make light of getting hit with roadside bombs? You're damn right I'm not "seeing it", so why don't you clue me in a bit.

That puppy is not a stuffed animal nor is it already dead prior to it being chuck off the cliff in the video.......when you pick up a puppy from behind it's neck or scruff it will naturally stop moving.....this is because by doing this, you are simulating what a parent dog would do in order to transport the young pups to a new location......

and that dude is fucked up, hope he gets punished.....

Ok this is what I see
A person who trained so hard to be a marine for what a marine stand for. To fight for people, for human rights and then do something inhumane. I know some marine would kick this guy’s ass for doing what they did or at less be punished for it. A lot of people will see this around the world and what would they see about the United States Marine? That two marines are fucked up or that they’re all fucked up I hope not cause my friend lost his eye helping to give food to people there.


As for the bomb it represent power over the marines like they had power over the puppy
You saw it as to kill them or I want them dead. Even though I never said anything about I want them dead or be killed by one. You saw one word bomb and got all fired up. I take it your in the military/marine and

You miss my point, which probably was not stated well. I agree that people should remain calm, wait until all the details are verified, etc.

But, it is absolutely pointless to come into the KS to "remind" people to do so. Do any of us have any say in what happens to these Marines (assuming the video is what it seems to be)?

It would be (infinitesimally) more productive to write a letter to your local Marine office, the Pentagon, your Congressman, etc than to come into the KS and lecture people. We are all irrelevant as far as this incident is concerned.

Discussing serious issues is fine, I do so here myself. I am simply saying that it does nothing to lecture KS'ers to "judge lightly." Who cares how we judge?

OK, all you are saying is that we cannot prove that it wasn't a real dog. That is NOT proof that it was indeed a real dog.

as far as the incident, yes we're irrelevant. as far as the issues that it involves we are not irrelevant or immune. that's why this is being discussed in the first place, awareness.

and that's all we're doing, is discussing it. if this were a lecture i'd be talking at you in a classroom or at work or somesuch. this is a forum for communication, which means the talking goes both ways (and, hopefully, listening). that's why i read what you said and responded. i'm nobody special. and i did not make that 'judge lightly' comment with the perception, belief or intent that i'd change the worlds view of this, let alone the BARF KS.

i firmly subscribe to the, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't force them to drink" philosophy. i don't think i can force anyone to change who they are and i will never waste my time trying or believing i can make other people do anything. but i can help people choose....

if one person read it and chooses to take that message to heart as opposed to jumping on the "lynch them/burn them" bandwagon, it was worth the time it took me to type it. and if no one choses to? oh well, i'm glad i said something and effected nothing as opposed to saying nothing and leaving the possibility out there that i, or anyone else, might have left something undone (that could have been).

who cares how we (the people in barf ks, i guess you mean) judge? well i think everyone cares, to certain degrees, how people judge things on a very basic level. for example: how do we judge humor? i'd better take that into consideration before posting what i think is a joke. otherwise it might just come off as dumb and not funny.

Ehh, cool, whatever. I still say it does not matter what any KS'er thinks. We are here to pass some time, share a few thoughts, and that's it. I don't care what someone else here might think, how they pass judgment, etc. This changes obviously if they are in some position of power that might affect my life.

Again, who cares if people in this thread jump to conclusions? Unless they plan to go and make death threats (as apparently some people have done) etc, it does not matter. They can think how they want. For example, I agree that the OP sounds like an idiot for his roadside bomb comment, but really...who cares what he says?
 
As someone who used to be a vet tech I have seen my share of dogs that were dying or dead..And there are a few things that made me think this dog was already deceased..

Yes animals tent to freeze when scruffed, but a dog of that size would most likely kick its legs(back legs at least) around if being held like that. It's front legs looked to be stuck in a very unnatural position, a sign of sigor mortis.

The yepling seemed very ingenuine as well. Going from a silent dog to that noise didn't feel appropriate.

Still a very despicable thing to want to represent in any light.

Where you run into a problem is your ignorance of English in its written form. Lets start with your title. U.S. Marines... the plural use of the word Marine leads the reader to believe you are including every marine in the U.S. Marine corps. Next you specify Marines hard at fighting the war. Ok so you have narrowed it down to every Marine in Iraq and Afghanistan for the reader. You link a video that shows only two Marines not every Marine seemingly killing a puppy. You follow that up with the request for a road side bomb. Again the reader is left with the impression you want these two Marines to be hit with a road side bomb. Now a reasonable person would extrapolate from that you would like these two Marines either killed or maimed for their transgressions against this puppy for what other result can be expected from a road side bomb blast?

Now I will be the first to agree that what they do to the puppy is cruel and with out merit, they should be punished for their stupidity and cruelty. I do not agree that "Death" is a reasonable punishment. I am also of the opinion you have lead a completely sheltered life and have no context to the world around you in which you live.

Show some fucking respect to the U.S. Marine Corps and every Soldier, Sailor, Airman and Marine fighting this war and edit you post to remove your ignorant comment. :mad
