Umigo Wednesday 7/20 @ 6:30 - Ernie takes his revenge on the tire wall!

My buddy Rino is showing up as well, with his daughters. No, you horny fuckers, they are not grown.

Not sure if I can get out of work early enough, but hope I can make it.

grrrrrr....for those in the know, Joint Commission is in our house this week. Thus I am now leaving work and will be missing karting action, and/or the filming there of. :cry

Great night. Abhijitz was kicking ass. Stan must of sucked some CO2 he was slower than molasses. Buford was hauling. Actually we were all less than a half second apart.

Ahem .... With the cowboy man's (Mr Kondo) absence, the newbies gained confidence on the track .... Ya, now you dont get passed "in flight" :laughing

It was helluva fun ! I rode kart once @ Millbrae, these karts at Umigo are much better. was driving like sh!t trying to trail brake :teeth , got some pointers and results were :: all of us were within half a second. in the lower 27's. unfortunately no video, (ohh wait buford has some ?) i couldnt sneak out my helmet and gopro without the misses noticing :(

Ok - next time, lets go to Millbrae / GoKartRacer. It has an elevation dip (hell fun) and tighter corners.

Thanks Stan for organising this fun event ! :thumbup

What track config and what were the laptimes like?

7.25 new track.

We were all 27.xx at some point. Fastest guys last night were 25.9x.
I think sticky tuesday had some 24s

Ernie may have been faster if he didn't keep spinning out in T3 for some reason.

That was a great time! I need to do some sort of endurance race because I never get back into the groove until the end.

Fridays Stan.....FRIIIII dayssss....

I did see something about that on Fridays. :laughing
You were missed, Kazman. The damn newbies were going pretty quickly without the worry of being annihilated by Cowboy Kazman.

I'm in for sure the next time. Ernie, I'll give you a good tip I learned recently from the outdoor karting.

Dan, what I never knew before doing outside Karts (and just the indoor stuff at Umigo) is that Karts have a solid rear axle. For the kart to turn and not slide, a driver has to get the inside tire to come off the ground so the kart can turn around the outside tire. A solid rear axle creates a problem as the outside tire turns the same speed as the inside tire...but has to travel a greater distance. Due to this, the kart technique is a hard, quick turn in to get the lift and pivot. Too high/ hard of a turn in will have the kart setting the tire back down too early and too low won't get the job done.

I've learned how to brake real hard, real late and then come off the brakes before the turn in...which is real difficult to adhere to with front brakes on my kart. One thing cool...when you get it correct, the kart almost starts to turn itself into the corner and it works oh so well. As soon as you apply throttle, the kart will set that tire down and begin to track out, straight. Just like in moto racing, patience is everything. Wating that hair second for the kart to complete its corner is huge...and that's where I get most of these guys in speed. That and in entry speed, which surprises even me.

Yes, leaning to the outside helps this and reduces the need for jerky steering ( and hence a sudden load on the tires )

Yup, karts are a blast. I used to race superkarts, and I used to run Speedring kart racing based out of santa clara. The leaning outward is counter intuitive for most, but really helps load the outside. You can even use more or less lean to give more or less slip to the inside tire based on what rotation factor you desire at X speed.

EDIT: also, check out if the kart your using has front/rear , rear only, or front only. Kart come in different configurations and your driving style needs change accordingly
