Under counter lighting?

Thank you for all the replies. After visiting a local lighting store and seeing a side by side comparison of the Xenon and LED, I am now leaning more towards Xenon since I am going with warm tones in my kitchen. rydmohr, thanks for the point about bringing out the colors in the granite. The LED light wasn't as nice a quality. Given the price difference I may just go with the Xenon. The brand the local lighting store stocks is Maxim.

Shop around, you can get warm and cold LED

Yes, he also has 2700k LED. The salesman I spoke with said the LED prices had come down, but it was still a notable amount more than the Xenon.

I have 3000k LED in my overhead can lights (9 of them).

This, Strip light is pretty awesome stuff, low voltage (12/24V), dimmable, and you can find it in alot of different kelvin ratings.

Its all I've used for the last few years.

The only lights we use in our gallery are LED, Jason at shine On LED is the man, he has some of the latest.:thumbup

My advice on under cabinet lighting is to make sure you're actually going to use it before you go to the trouble. We did a kitchen remod and did really nice under cabinet lighting and we never, ever use it. It looks great if you're trying to do an Architectural Digest shoot, but we found it totally unnecessary and haven't even turned it on in years.

M. Glad you took the time to look at the Xenon. I like LED and think it works well in some places but it tends to throw a gray wash on surfaces. I used to call it 'parking garage lighting' not good quality but you can see where you are walking. :laughing Anyways if you want to see the true color of your surfaces and people for that matter then stick with Xenon or Halogen. It's your Kitchen....have fun! :)

Good point, but we LOVED ours. Nice amibent light when all the other "main" lights were off. Warm and cozy, though again ours were halogen.

Everything breaks, so id steer homeowners to something that screws in first, is led (hardwired) second, and uses special sockets third based on life/ease of service.

That's one reason why I am leaning more towards the xenon - bulbs are $3.99 each.

When the LED dies I have to replace the whole panel AND pay an electrician to do it (and yes, I could probably do it myself but I am not crazy about doing electrical work). That also assumes I can still buy the same or similar panel, otherwise I could end up with unmatched lighting.

We're getiing it for our new kitchen, but its primary use will be as a night light
