Unlicensed Covid Testing

No. They might just be mining for personal data for criminal activity.

Hell no. It's just people trying to make a quick profit like so many other scammers. Not to be trusted.

Nope, they have been known to ask for drivers license details and social. It sounds like they are actually sending the tests out to be processed, albeit slowly, so I guess that there is an avenue where they are getting paid for this? I wouldn't trust a fly by night company with that much information on me though.

You have to wonder about that. Unlicensed. Unregulated. Someone just erects a flea market canopy and a folding table, then hangs a shingle. Free Covid Test. How is it free? How is it funded? And what about that guy actually doing the test? Is he trained? Too many questions left unanswered.

I'm guessing they were planning on billing the government after fake tests or with cheap bootleg tests with low accuracy while charging plenty. Lot's of ways for scammers to milk the system.

Do you think any of the tests are free?

When you do a rapid test at home are you trained?

All of you who want to test you can always pay someone to come to your house and test you. Theres tests out there.

Yes, they are free now
It's not rocket science
Why would anybody want to pay over $100 for an in-home test?

Also, the highly accurate tests take days to get a response, sometimes, and by then you are beyond the phase where you're contagious in most cases.

NOTHING is free. Did you vote for Bernie? I hope youre not a rocket science teacher.

I don't know what the concern about these is. I did one a few months ago - a rapid antigen test, so the result was while I waited. I had to give my name, address and phone number; and my insurance number. And I do the test on myself, so it's not like they need a qualified doctor to administer it.

Just did another one that was set up in with an EZ-up just like in the picture on this thread. Same thing, only a PCR test. So results in a few days.

Everytime I buy something on the interwebs I give up all that info (minus my Kaiser number), along with a credit card number to someone I don't know.

Why should I be concerned with this?

Did several quick tests last year before driving athletes in a van. It was not rocket science, don't know why you're trying to make it out to be more than it really is.

Technically, nothing is free, but there are free tests available out there.

If I go to a Walgreens, CVS, Palo Alto Medical, Kaiser, Chinese Hospital - I know that those organizations are billing my insurance. No out of pocket co-pay, but it was not free.

If I go to SF Dept of Public Health, I know that it's a government funded testing facility. Not free. Paid for with my tax dollars.

But when some random person sets up a flea market tent and folding table on the sidewalk, I wonder....... Out of the goodness of his heart, he is paying for the testing out of his own pocket? Who is this person, with my confidential information? Is the guy on the sidewalk trained? Is he handling the samples properly? Is he there wearing a surgical mask below his nostrils, breathing in Covid from an infected person, then exhaling on me? Does that guy change his gloves between testing? Or is he wearing the same gloves all day, contaminated, and then contaminating people and test samples?

We dealt with one of these fly by night pop up testing tents recently. Shady as hell. Apparently, they were not trained. No PPE. One was smoking while handing tests with no gloves. Another guy just out of prison, or something like that. Company was very evasive and uncooperative with police. Our public health department was not aware of them, and had not sanctioned them. They were requesting money, or tips, or some such.

Stay away from those.

At the street level, a police officer could issue a citation for obstructing a sidewalk - the same enforcement tool used for hookers. But it really isn't a street level violation for some beat cop to just say, "move along". This is a more complex activity, which should be investigated by agencies like the District Attorney, Department of Public Health, State Attorney General. It's not enough to send a couple of cops to make them pack up their tents and get off the sidewalk.

They should do what they do with illegal street venders with fruit...confiscate everything so that they don't set up somewhere else. I have much more sympathy for the street venders.
