Upgrade to Fz 09

I pulled in the trigger and bought a used fz09, so far in love with it, still miss the high speed ability of my zx6r but I am gonna hold on to this bike and STFU and ride for few months:ride. Is super comfortable as I am coming from a supersport, though I have to do something about the wind, 70+ on a windy day is a pain.
Perhaps looking to add a MRA touring windscreen or buy some quiet helmet or even ear plugs may help.

YESSSS FZ09 get it! I came from a CBR600RR and then moved to an FZ. Sold the 600RR after 2 months. Ask me anything

Any recommendations to reduce wind blast/noise at 80+ mph?

High speed ability? You mean the speedlimit? Pretty much the only place you can open up a bike is on a drag strip or circuit. I guess you can get to the speed limit faster?

It's a naked bike so it's going to be noisy if you want to quiet down your ride get a windscreen. Do some research on what's a good screen for someone of your size because what works for someone might not work for you.

It's a naked bike so it's going to be noisy

Not all naked bikes are noisy. My SuperDuke is one of the quietest bikes I've ever ridden, for example. It's phenomenally quieter than my 2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200S ever was...

Suggestions for the OP, in priority order:

1. Earplugs! You should be wearing these every time you ride! Buy the soft disposable plugs rated at NRR33. Learn how to insert them properly! Not sure which plugs to buy? Grab an assortment from earplugstore.com

2. Buy a helmet designed for your current riding position. A supersport helmet, which is designed to work well in a tucked position, won't necessarily work as well when you're sitting upright. The Shoei GT-Air and Qwest seem to work well on upright bikes. The GT-Air is one of the quietest helmets I've owned, for whatever that's worth. WebBikeWorld is a reasonably good source for helmet reviews.

3. Consider adding a windscreen... but do your research first. In my experience, most aftermarket windscreens are crap. FYI, taller/larger isn't always better when it comes to eliminating noise. The only screen which really reduced wind noise on the Multi was the ultra-short carbon fiber "race" screen; all of the larger screens I tried ruined the aerodynamics and caused increased wind noise and buffeting.

...or even ear plugs may help.
Get some earplugs right now. And wear them every time you ride. Once you've damaged your ears and have tinnitus, it never goes away. You need them even on bikes with good wind protection.

When I had the KTM 990 Adventure I knew from the first test ride that it had a wind buffeting issue and that it would be extra noisy at the helmet above even 40 mph. But good earplugs made that a non-issue.

Earplugs Always!! Well, only if you want to keep your hearing later in your life and not have tinnitus.

I've had an FZ-09 for about 6 months, the motor is a lot of fun, for sure.

The suspension - arg! Any sharp-edged expansion joints or such and BAM!! crumples your spine and tries to knock the bars out of your hands (exaggerating a bit). And mine came with a "better" aftermarket shock - Penske 8900E Single Adjustable, which is their low end shock. The bike feels like it's jittery all the time. My 22 year old Honda CBR600 F3 has a MUCH better suspension, way more solid and settled at all times, and it has the stock forks. The shock is an old Fox unit that apparently is way superior.

I have some kind of German-made fairly tall windscreen but I'll have to get back to you on the brand, it's been fine for me so far.

Since I planned to ride 2-up with this bike, I did recently get a Corbin seat with backrest. It's more comfortable than stock for sure, but it better be for ~ $700

Thanks, please get back on the brand of the windscreen, I am researching some models and MRA touring screen looks to be the one with best functionality. Suspension is a non-issue for me, I am below 150 lb.

From an FZ09 owner...

Great question and I feel the answer is Yes, the FZ09 would be a good move. I'm 51 now, but when I was 46 I was riding a friend's GSXR750, did a 220 mile day and felt beat up for the next 3-4 days after.

This got my motivated to look at other bikes with bars and more comfortable riding positions. I bought a '14 FZ09 with 9k mi. on it and can say from experience it was an excellent choice! I have logged 10k miles on it now (19k total) and it does everything I want and more.

I can do 400-500 mi. rides per day comfortably, play in the canyons on the weekend and the Triple platform has power virtually any where you want it, no matter what gear your in. Being a former road racer of 13 yrs. it also handles amazing with susp. upgrades, I currently have Penske inserts & shock. With that said I have also done track days for the last 2 years, drag my knee everywhere a sportbike does, so I can say... this bike doesn't skip a beat and you won't be disappointed.

Already upgraded to fz09 and sold my zx6r, I am looking for some suggestions to improve wind blast, probably a MRA touring windscreen based on my research

i had a Puig wind screen - deflected most of the wind off my body to my head. MRA is a big thing - if you're ok with the look - it's most functional. If you want something that is functional (not as much as the MRA) but still looks decent - Puig is a good alternative.

I had the MRA double bubble for my FZ-09 and I thought it worked well while still looking sporty. I liked it so much that I kept it when I replaced the bike with the intent of putting it on the replacement bike. Now I just ride my naked with no windscreen at all though.

I had the Ermax 25cm on mine...buffeted the wind good while still looking sporty.

Looks like most of you stand by MRA as well, will try soon!

Have the low sport one Yam offers and haven't installed any touring wind screens unfortunately.

Ya, mine's a MRA WVM - KBA 90512. It's about 4" above the display.

Never knew earplugs would make such a difference:teeth, do not think I need any windscreen anymore.

I agree with this. I have always rode naked bikes and now that I have custom fitted ear plugs it is wunderbar!!!

I can even enjoy wearing my dirtbike helmet on the highway
