Who makes a decent usb keyboard? I've been "docking" my laptop to my CRT more and more, and owuld like to also have a keyboard infront of me vs. typing on the laptop keyboard. I've been searching Newegg, and see either $10 crappy ones, or $50 NICE ones. I'm trying to find something inbetween. I'd also like to be able to find something locally. Tomorrow is my day off from work, and i kinda wanna take advantage of it. I live in the eastbay, and going to frys isn't on the desirable list of things/places to go. There is an office max and compusa in emeryville. Is if even worth going to compusa anymore? I stopped going years ago after getting annoyed by their service/quality of merchandice.

Tips? Ideas? Recomendations of places/keyboards? I really dont' wanna spend $50 for a usb keyboard that lights up on newegg, just so i can get one that is slightly ergonomic (i have bad wrists from guitar)

MeisI: Mobility makes a port replicator that'll do what you want. It connects via USB to your laptop, and provides:

  • PS/2 keyboard connection
  • PS/2 mouse connection
  • printer port
  • 2 USB ports
  • rs232 serial port

I love the thing - combined with a KVM port switcher, I can put my laptop down on my desk, hook up two cables (video and port replicator), tap SCROLL LOCK three times on my keyboard, and everything switches over from my desktop system to my laptop.

well i have a viewsonic media keyboard i got from fry's for $25. for usb i guess you can just use the ps2 connector. did you try looking on ebay?

Where did you find it at? Also if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay? I found a "dock" on new egg which is specific for my ibm, and has the ps/2 connectors, monitor, etc. however, it's $100, and i odn't so much need the bling, i just want the adaptor. if it's less than the $50 "bling" light up one from newegg, i'll hop on that, otherwise, i may actually walk into a compusa tomorrow just to see what they've got to offer.

eh, i ended up going to compusa, looked at what they had to offer, and bought a $20 usb keyboard. Seems to do the job just fine. Now i gotta get used to the key spacing.
