Using quad ramp for motorcycles?

Hey all. I was looking to buy a ramp to use with my pickup for my Daytona 675 and I noticed that prices for the ATV ramps sold as a pair are quite a bit cheaper than the motorcycle ones. The sizes seem to be about the same. Anybody know the differences between them? I'm kinda curious and I couldn't find anything in the forums.
 
Check the weight limits that is the real limiting factoer here. If you have a 500# bike don't get a ramp rated at 500#. Unless, of course you like taking chances. My single ramp is rated at 750# and it still feels a little wimpy to me.
 
when choosing a ramp, try not to skimp out on this too much. Only takes one oopsie moment for you to wish you had gotten a better ramp. Ramps range in price depending on how long they are, how wide they are, and how much they arch and fold. Try to see how tall your truck tail-gate is. If it's pretty darn tall say a 4x4 or full size pickup, you'll want a really long ramp. I used to run 2 9' ramps. One for me to run up and one for the bike, even then I got help doing it.
 
The ATV ramps tend to be wider (and therefore heavier). That does give you a bit more width to play with when loading and unloading.

Make sure you're comparing apples to apples - folding vs. non (the former are easier to stash, steel vs. aluminum (the latter are definitely easier to work with).
 
If you by one that is straight be careful not to bottom out your fairings if you have a tall truck. The arched ones are better for avoiding this problem.
 
if you use an ATV ramp you have to ride two motorcycles up it at the same time.
 
be VERY careful anytime ya buy an aluminum ramp -

make sure that yer foot can't easily fall in-between any of the cross-rods as you move up & down the length

broken leg or ankle can happen pronto with a too-skimpy design.......

I have a Toyota Thundra 2009. Since the tailgate is on the high side, i might require a longer ramp huh?

Long and arched is what you want. With a flat/straight ramp when you get the bike to the top of the ramp and the front tire starts getting in the bed a lot of sport bikes will bottom out which sucks for loading up. Even worse is when you unload and your fairings snags on the lip of ramp and you start hearing plastic breaking. ( don't ask how I know this) Now if your talking dirtbikes or sumo then none of this matters

Don t ride your bike up the ramp. I've seen more people hurt trying to ride their bike up a ramp into into their truck, than crashing on the street.

How does this happen?

I ride mine up every time. I was only nervous the first time, after that it was cake.
 
I use an ATV ramp.

Good if you have a curb, bad if you're looking to load from the side of the road.
My dirt bike slides in without a problem, 2 street bikes need help.
 
get the flat ones...you can ride on them straight in, we use to ride ou HD baggers up on them into a f350
 
I have a wooden one lol, works just fine :p

I had a AL folder that was nicer, almost no flex by comparison, used to ride up the folder.... it takes practice to do it well, I like to get the front tire as high up the ramp as my legs will allow then use the engine.

300 lb static load... that means i can sit on your tailgate... but dont pass my a beer, it might ruin your tailgate!

The Trackside folding aluminum ramps have worked fine for me. They're arched and have no issues with scraping bodywork when loading into my Titan Pro-4X.
 
Heavy weight wide in the middle. two cheapies on the sides just in case.

Been riding it in forever. No problems.
