Vertical Motorcycle Storage

i used rachet straps ;p 1 on the tail, 2 for the tripple tree.

if you have a welder.... a used tommy gate and then weld some little tie down points one the edges. ride on lift, apply ropes/straps. walk off, apply 12V DC and lift

easy!

I am glad to see I am not the only hoarder.
:laughing

The tommy gate is another interesting idea. It looks like one could be picked up used for a few hundred bucks. I could add some legs to it. Hmmm.
Whatever I do, I'd like it to be to be easy enough that my wife wouldn't mind doing on her on e.g. roll it on/over and push a button. Plus, we wanna ride the bikes so, getting up/down is supposed to be easy.

I found a few of the stacker/high lifts on craigslist that looked easy to modify w/ wall supports and an electric winch. The closest one was only 1-1/2 hours away but, was pretty beat up, grossly over priced (~$90 less than a new one) and the guy didn't want to budge on his asking price.

...So, the search continues.

Just remember if you hang a bike, most roof joists and rafters are designed for the static weight of the roof or ceiling. No for adding another 400-500 pounds in the middle.

And if you want to get fancy, you could make some special hanging brackets that would engage the bike [...] under the steering stem and the swingarm or maybe just the frame with some clamps to hold it.

Hmmm, I'm really liking that.

I was originally thinking of something simple like the candy cane-style clamp from add-a-bike (more hot linking):

..but, I worry about it being able to slide back/forward with nothing supporting the wheels (if it's supported under the engine only). So, I was thinking of adding a footpeg clamp like add-a-bike (pic above) or the Ultimate MX Hauler (they even sell the clamps separately for $22) as well.

but, something simpler with pins might be easier. ...Hmmm
